Re: How to make a graphics card quieter using sponge

It's been years since it was mainstream but I recall some different GPU fan isolation methods being discussed as part of the Zalman vf900 fan replacement process. Foam was used but I also remember a big pencil eraser being mentioned at some point. For mine I used a couple of the rubber HDD drive cag...

Re: MSI 270x HAWK - a silent gpu for gamers

I've been looking at the 270X as well in order to replace my Scythe Musashi cooled 5850 but the argument for the GTX 670 is rather compelling. G Sync alone is pushing me in that direction and never mind the current game bundles or lack thereof. I just hope that if the technology really does take off...

I couldn't wait for this review and already made my 5850 purchase back in November but I'm glad it's here for all my gaming SPCR comrades. The stock cooler is of course insufficient but I wanted to point out this thread where falcon26 put a Twin Turbo Pro on his 5870 and has already spawned a discus...

I grabbed my 605e from ExcaliberPC almost a month ago now. It's been darned hard to find and in fact the first store I found in North America was in a Canada seller that didn't ship to the US. Argh!

My MSI P55-CD53 also exhibits the crackling on my Seasonic 550W Energy Plus PSU and I don't know if it's possible to change the VCore in that BIOS. You may need to step up to the CD65 in that case. The sound isn't that bad on the Seasonic and I couldn't even hear it until I quieted down my raging Re...

I used an S1283 and the new ACK mounting kit for my i5-750 build earlier this month and it worked great. The back plate confused me a little at first but that was the only problem I encountered during installation. At the very least it's a nice alternative to the push-pin system the cooler comes wit...

Looks like Newegg has Xigmatek's socket 1156 compatible mounting kits in now too.

I'm glad the 5800s are getting this much attention here. I'll be building my new P55 system soon and plan on using a 5850 but I'm coming from an 8800GT with a Nexus fan modified Zalman VF-900 which was nearly inaudible relative to the other components. The idle power on these new GPUs is amazing but...

I was trying to figure out why your benchmarks had these new chips performing so poorly compared to the other reviews published today, then I noticed you had turbo mode disabled. I don't understand the rationale behind disabling it while benchmarking the chips performance. No sane person is going t...

Without the case floor HDD mount point you still have the 3.5" bay and the lower 5.25" bay so fear not.

edit: Whoops. Fear not, that is, unless you plan on filling that 3.5" slot with a floppy drive? It didn't occur to me before but I probably should ask just to be safe.

I put together a system for my parents a while back using the NSK 3400 and I can attest to how small it is. My main concern would be the third HDD as mikeki already pointed out. The 3480 is certainly capable of holding three drives but it will be a tight fit and you will more than likely lose the bo...

I'm curious to know the temps for an HDD in that configuration too. I've added a second 3.5" data drive to my NSK 2400 leaving my WD Scorpio 2.5" OS drive looking for a home. It being a cooler unit I'm tempted to just rest it on a bed of foam in the lower section of the 5.25" bay and forget about it.

I've successfully stopped coil whine on an old Athlon XP motherboard with silicon aquarium sealant. In fact I think this was this thread that fixed me up a few years back. I hope this helps.

Edit: Didn't realize how old this thread was. Forgive me!

VGA Duct

Actually no, I don't have the duct installed right now. With enough fiddling I'm sure I could have made it fit despite the power supply connector being where it is but I decided not to install it for a little extra quiet. Although I do remember one member reporting a successful installation of an 80...

Well I've lurked for months in order to get my new system together so I guess I'm long overdue to contribute. Shazkar, I purchased the same model of motherboard for my new P180 so I have a few comments to make on that. First, there are only three PCI slots available on the 9NPA+ and you will absolut...
