Re: 105 degrees on my fanless gigabyte x800, what to do?

Is this safe? No. What can I do to reduce the temperature without voiding the warranty? Nothing :( The stock heatsink is so bad that even putting a high airflow fan next to it isn't enough. Check this thread: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=19067 . I've posted some pictures and res...

Yeah I'm also worried about my temps with this cooler (90C under load), since I have very little airflow going through my Wavemaster, but I don't want to add any noise. How loud is that zalman VF700Cu? If I run it at 5v, is it quiet enough to be considered "silent"? Around 1250-1350rpm I can say it...

hi blackd, was it hard to remove the heatpipe? Actually it was quite a task. After removing the screws you'll have to get the front heatplate off. As I stated earlier it's attached with adhesive tape so it can be difficult. First time I tried to open it I actually bent the heatpipes so that I could...

or is it possible?
Well, check specs of my system: http://www.ee.oulu.fi/~blackd/project_s ... istics.txt. It's silent and stays relatively cool even with 100% load at both CPU and GPU. So I'd say yes, it's possible.

I was too lazy to run Prime95 for more than 2 hours... Your computer isn't probably stable at all  I did something like two days doing normal desktop work at 1.150V. I had no problems at all but when I ran Prime95 it crashed after four hours. Then I found out that running 3Dmark05 in loop is ...

Hello boys and girls! Now it's time for a little educational story: Once upon a time there was a Gigabyte Radeon X800 graphics card, and it was equipped with passive cooler. http://www.ee.oulu.fi/~blackd/project_silence/why_gigabyte_passive_cooler_sucks/1.jpg http://www.ee.oulu.fi/~blackd/project_si...

My Winchester 3000+ runs stably at 1.15v. If you need 1.25 then it seems the Venice core uses more power.
Nine and half hours and Prime95 gets error. Argh, now it's 1.275V and running..

Hi, just updated http://www.ee.oulu.fi/~blackd/project_silence/statistics.txt ! I've been running Prime95 Torture Test for nine hours now. CPU voltage is 1.248V.. hopefully this will be stable. Still three hours to magical 12h limit. I also bought several resistors and did modification to my noisele...

MB: I made my choise between Asus A8N-E and Abit AN8 Ultra. Of course Asus A8N-SLI Premium would have been the best choise but unfortunately it's really expensive. My budget was limited, so I bought Asus A8N-E. So why not Abit? First of all, I need all three PCI-slots. With Abit and 3rd party GPU co...

What temps did you get with the fan on the VF700 below 5V? Did you find out at about which voltage the fan starts? Well, full load temps aren't that important because you can always use controller to raise spinning speed of the fan. Did you check http://www.ee.oulu.fi/~blackd/project_silence/statis...

I'm updating http://www.ee.oulu.fi/~blackd/project_silence/statistics.txt frequently so you can check all new results from there. The lowest setting my controller allows for VF700 fan is...

Well, I just installed Zalman VF700Cu. I don't know if it is Zalman or my carefully applied case damping of both of them, but @5V it is impossible to hear it when case is closed :) I just ran 3Dmark05 constantly for 30 minutes and got 58C peak at GPU core and 67C at NB. That's almost 50C lower temps...

You might want to make sure the heatsink is set on tightly. Maybe take it off and reattach it with some artic silver instead of the thermal grease or pad that's on there now. Thanks for the suggestion, but as I said on my previous post: "I took that heatsink off and believe me, it's the worst desig...

Im just curious, when you say that the gpu temperature inst at a tolerable level, is it intolerable bcos it effects the graphics or bcos it generates to much heat? Well, GPU always generates same amount of heat, the point is dissipating heat away from core. In my opinion anything over 90C is too mu...

You will want to pay careful attention to the ambient temperature in the case. Especially with passively cooled components, the air temperature plays a big part. Yes, main thing here is a stable airflow through the case. During normal desktop activity cpu should stay relatively cool with cool'n'qui...

Check out my plan for a silent A64 system

Hi! My old Athlon XP 2000+ system started to feel a bit too slow so I decided that now it's the time to do some updating. Then I thought about noise, and chances to get rid of it.. after few days of studying my little update grew to a complete new system. I'm aiming to have system as quiet as possib...
