Thanks for your insights tutu. Assuming you purchased it from Scan, would you be able to check the warranty status with the serial number on the Samsung checker ? I know Scan themselves offer a 36 month warranty but it would be useful to know if an RMA can be made with Samsung direct. Many Samsung d...

frank2003, Before you RMA the board, try doing a BIOS recovery update. http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-023360.htm It requires a special jumper to be removed to allow the update from CD. Location of the jumper is in the technical spec PDF: http://www.intel.com/support/moth...

Re: New drive cage/sled for VelociRaptor

BTW. Any news on the single-platter VelociRaptor? The following single platter drives are due for release very soon: WD1500HLFS 150GB consumer WD1500BLFS 150GB enterprise Google for pricing. The single platter WD740BLFS 74GB drive is also starting to show up on Google and the WD800HLFS 80GB is bein...

The big question is will the new sled be only for the corporate/RAID edition or will the consumer retail edition get it as well? The new sled will be on the HLFS consumer edition (which replaces the GLFS). The enterprise BLFS appears to be a standalone 2.5" drive with no heatsink (and therefore no ...

If 80GB is not too small for you, the WD800HLFS might be ideal if WD ever makes it available outside of large OEMs at your price point.

I think we have an answer for the noise difference between review samples and the retail velociraptor Interesting, thanks. It seems that we have another confusing situation with WD models/versions/samples. I've listed the new models in this thread The SR table appears to be comparing the beta versi...

Will they be also used in the WD My Book external drives?

I found an OEM evaluation version (presumably) of the WD1500BLFS on eBay.

Of course this gives no real indication of the release price but $200 sounds about right.

New WD Velociraptor Enterprise + Consumer drives 150GB/300GB

Enterprise BLFS series Press release 150GB WD1500BLFS 300GB WD3000BLFS I know a lot of people have been waiting for a 150GB single platter version, me included. I hope that there will be an acoustic, power consumption and temperature improvement (however slight) over the double platter version. No ...

Ok, also you can try undervolting each speedstep state (I think NHC also does this but I prefer RMclock). You should be able to run the chip 100% stable at lower than default voltages. I undervolt my laptop with it (not the desktop as it's overclocked!) and it makes a significant difference in temps...

Interesting. I wasn't aware of this bug. It already scales between 800Mhz and 2.0Ghz with varying voltage, so I've done that part. Are you doing this with RM Clock ? If not, give it a try. It's an excellent utility which lets you configure power states and speedstep options. There's a section for C3...

I flashed my 109 with the A09 firmware a few months ago, for the ripunlock feature. It also enables you to use the Quiet drive utility . I can't remember the exact procedure, you cannot just flash the drive with the Pioneer flasher (don't attempt this or you may damage the drive), you need to use a ...

Thanks Rich, I also use the P-states, I haven't tried the ODCM yet. Reason I'm interested in overclocking is because Pentium M chips are expensive so it's better value for money to get a low-end one and overclock it :) The max FSB on the Speedster is disappointing but I hear rumours that MSI will be...

I've been using RMclock on my PC and laptop for the last few months, it's a great piece of software. I set up Speedstep on the PC so it only increases clock speed when it needs to. I don't undervolt as it makes make my overclock unstable. Temps are reduced when running at low clock speeds (i.e. most...
