Re: Silverstone ML05 mini-ITX HTPC case
Good review, as usual. I have just completed a build using the ML05 to occupy a bit less space than a previously built SG05. I built this system as a low power Vortex Box (http://vortexbox.org/about) to serve music to a Squeezebox music player. The mobo is an Asrock B85M-ITX with 8Gb ram, an Intel P...

Excellent and useful review. "If readers have any good candidates for our next low profile heatsink/fan roundup, let us know in the forum discussion thread for this article." Two heatsinks I have recently used and have been impressed with are the Silverstone NT06 Evolution - http://www.silverstonete...

I use Speedfan for CPU and System/Case fans and one of CPEmma's thermistor controllers for fans that cool hard disks. In my latest build - Antec P182 case (Nexus 120mm fans), GA-EP35-DS3P mobo and E2160 with a Ninja + Rev B, Speedfan controls the two rear case fans (no fan on the Ninja) as the CPU f...

Thermistor placement on hard disks for fan control.
I have built a bunch (8 or 9) of cpemma's fan controls (http://www.cpemma.co.uk/thermal.html) over the last few years with great success on cpu and vga heatsink fans but have never figured out the best place on a hard disk to attach (with gaffer tape) the thermistor that controls the disk cage fan. ...

A thought provoking article. Since I first replaced a Zalman Fanmate control with a CP Emma designed thermistor fan controller on a Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu I have been grappling with the reported CPU temp and the lag and minor increase in fan speed. I suspect a lot of fans are run too fast. Has SPCR e...

JJ your response is what I hoped would come out of the woodwork. These fans are too good and inovative to give problems. The Arctic Fan 9 has been plugged into each mobo and worked quietly without problems - 32~34 at idle (with anbient temps around 27C - this is Australia!) and early 50s when foldin...

Antec P150 case and supplied NeoHE power supply s/n S05100032788 works fine with Asus A8N-VM CSM and MSI RS480M2-IL motherboards. Worked from first power up, power leads plugged into opposite ends of the 5 sockets on the power supply. I did have a problem with intermittant system crashes but it has ...

Arctic Fan 12 may cause system crashes.
I bought an Arctic Fan 9 and an Arctic Fan 12. The 9 is mounted on a Thermalright XP-90 CPU heatsing to cool an AMD A64 X2 3800+ and the 12 replaced an Antec Tri Speed fan in a P150 case. The Arctic Fan 12 appeared to cause intermittant system crashes in XP when connected to the motherboard system f...

cpemma said "I'd say test by results" - which is exactly what I have ended up doing. I cut some foamcore (thin cardboard and foam 5mil thick) baffles to direct the airflow and have relied on Speedfan to give me the temps of the 5 disks, CPU and M/B. I built 2 of cpemma's thermal fan controllers and ...

How do you determine airflow in a case ?
How do you determine airflow in a case ? I'm reluctant to watch cigarette smoke get sucked in by a CPU fan and exit through vents. Watching a length of cassette tape flapping may be a better way, but the tape may be conductive or get caught in a fan. What have people used? The reason for this query ...

Having just built 2 systems using the RS480M2-IL board I agree with Andyb's results and opinions. Both systems have 1Gb of Kingmax DDR 400 dual channel ram, Maxtor 10 Sata 200Gb HDD and LiteOn DVD writers. iTunes will crash when connected to an iPod via USB, but the firewire to iPod works very quick...
