Hi, The factors to look at are Rotation Noice and Air Velocity (not CFM). CFM is Ait=r Velicity x Cross Sectional Area, and provided you have a sifficiently large Cross Sectional Area you can achieve almost any CFM while retaining low Air Velocity and hence low Noise. The bigger fan helps with both ...

Hi, No - its revolutions perminute. A revolution is an angular movement, or rotation, of 360 degrees. A rotation is an unquantified angular movment. If the fan stopped and started, and you called each angualr movement (from start to stop) a rotation, then "rotations per minute minute" would be the n...

Hi, 7C above ambient isn't bad at all - if you try for anything under 5C the fan noise will be horrendous. But braodly, the idea does not work. You need the fans even if there is no case at all. The PC components heat up the air they are in contactt with; and if you have no fans, convection current ...

Hi, The airflow is in no way impeded by putting the fans in the middle. In fact it's the only place in a case where you can get three fans running in parallel. The Q9550 is a relatively small CPU and you don't get good thermal contact to all four pipes in consequence. The S1...

I'm quite certain that if you simply reduced the voltage on the nominal 12v supply to a PWM fan by adding a resistor it would slow down.

I also suspect that the slow down would be in the same proportion at all fan speeds.
