But why not choose a stock cooler that happens to be fanless? That certainly guarantees silence, and I fail to see the downside.

It was shown at Computex , with a release date "several months" away. The power details confuse me - they seem to be saying that it'll be powered by a standard molex, but they also say that data will be kept as long as there's "standby power". I didn't think "standby power" involved any power going ...

It's too late to be of any use to you, of course, but that cooler isn't meant to be installed on the 7800GT without the ZM80D-IK1 kit mentioned here . Not sure how you enlarged the holes, so it's hard to tell if the process may have caused your problem. If I were to guess from your description of th...

7900GT passive stock cooling from MSI

http://www.msi.com.tw/images/product_img/vga_img/S_V066_7900GT-VT2D256EZ.gif As far as I'm aware, this makes for two firsts: The first 7900GT with passive stock cooling, and the first high-end MSI card with passive stock cooling. I'm thinking that unless I see some reviews showing good cooling perf...

The Schooner will cool your new card just fine. It cools my 7800GT, which runs slightly hotter than a 7900GT, and the general airflow in my case (from a single Nexus 120mm at 5V-9V) isn't significantly higher than yours. In fact, if you believe X-bit labs' power measurements, a 7900GT should have ju...

Whenever a company boasts a mouthful it always makes me think of thermaltake. Lots and lots of PR mixed with some chest thumping (Tarzan anyone?) and some exaggeration (for example 7900gt cards can be colled with aerocool coolers almost passively). I'm not sure what, if any, connection you're tryin...

I can offer my setup as another data point... slightly different components, but similarly audacious: An Athlon64 X2 4200+ (2 x 2.2Ghz) and a 7800GT, both passively cooled - the CPU with a fanless Ninja and the GPU with a Thermaltake Schooner. I find I get great results using just the Q-Fan feature on the CPU and CHA1 headers. The Nexus is very very quiet at the low speed, and only ramps up during gaming.

It's not suspension, but instead of the standard mounting my drives are enclosed and well decoupled in the P180's lower chamber. This makes them completely inaudible under normal conditions. But that's just me being extremely sensitive about drive noise. I think the grommets in the P180 are extremel...

It's really starting to sound like you have a faulty temperature sensor in that HD. That model really shouldn't be running so hot under those conditions, and if it doesn't feel like it's that hot either, all the more reason to suspect the reading isn't very accurate. I have two hard drives in Silent...

The A8N-SLI Premium has no sensor on the NF4 chipset - the "system" temp is somewhere else on the board, not sure where. The actual chipset can get extremely hot unless there's plenty of airflow. In my very low airflow system I've measured temperatures up to 75C with a simple sensor stuck to the top...

I own two, but I don't use them. They do seem to silence general idle noise fairly well, but they do next to nothing to dampen vibrations and seek noise, and they're so big they'll only fit mounted in the 5.25" bays of my P180, where vibrations carry too well. They're not very good at keeping temper...
