I've done a bit of work since my last post - mostly minor but the system is almost down to a 100% acceptable level: 1) I've plugged the (swapped) PSU fan into the motherboard so I can bring it's speed down 20% using asus qfan - at the default 1000 RPM the sharkoon (non golfball) 120mm is pretty quie...

I believe Cubit doesnt make these cases anymore, and went out of buisness. They are quite popular and very rare to come by now a days. Its a very high quality enclosure. IMO, one of the best mini-itx enclosures ever created. I guess the "company" that made them was just some guy doing it on the sid...

Aren't you worried about how much your motherboard sags under the enormous weight of your heatsink? I'd be concerned. Cracks happen. You may want to find some stiff foam or other nonconductive material, double it up a few times and stuff it in underneath your CPU socket. Because dang your cooler is...

Very impressive layout! I didn't even know that case existed, but it's an excellent choice for the SFF form factor. I found a review of the V300 here with more pics. Question: why do you need two DVD-RWs? As above a newer version is coming soon. I assume you've also seen the the Silverstone SG01, e...

That's a lot of changes. Did you think about buying a different case to start out with if you don't like it that much? Why use 4 x 120mm fans? ("Why not?" ???). I'm guessing noise is not your first priority. I thought of buying every case, but this is the best looking case on the market (in the dim...

Ooh, looks nice. But I'm in the USA, and would have no use for the HDD (have my own), and I don't know that your AC/DC brick would work for US electrical setups. This'd be a perfect tiny home server. Ooh, I want. But...we're oceans apart, you and I. :( Too bad -- otherwise I'd have snatched this on...

So, as promised, some pics. First off an internal view from the right side with the SI-128 in place. It's somewhat cramped but I've managed to keep the cables out of the airflow at least: http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/7888/dsc01194wp3.jpg Here's why you can't mount the HSF with the mobo tray ou...

Any Lian Li V300 owners here?

My 'HTPC' is now living in a V300 and I've just started working towards making it a lot quieter (it's never going to be silent but it can be made better) (pics will be added in short order) So I have an E2140, 2GB RAM, an X800XL, 2 WD 500GB HDDs and 2 DVDRWs all plugged into an Asus P5B-VM. 'Work' d...

UK FS: Cubit P3 Mini ITX system

Time for me to sell this on... Have bought too many PC bits recently and whilst this is a lovely little box that I'd sooner keep I need to claw some cash back. Specs: 1.2GHz Tualatin P3 CPU (256K L2, 133Mhz FSB) passively cooled by a swiftech MCX370 heatsink 1 x 512MB PC133 Intel i815 chipset with o...

Thanks folks. Just ordered the mobo (in a cheap bundle on ebay - mobo + CPU + RAM for $129). Going to wait until it arrives before I either order a PSU for the case I have now or sell that and order a new case that includes a PSU (I still haven't decided which one I really want to do as yet).

Have you seen this thread about the efficiency of a brick+DC-DC PSU :?: I have now. Thank you. So ~80% effeciency at 50W+... Think I now have an idea what I need. Thinking of swapping the cubit 3 for something else though - the price of ~120W PSUs (AC to DC and DC to DC kits) is almost as much as a...

This thread from the Power Supplies forum is very relevant IMO for this decision: PicoPSU @ CES 2006 Your guesstimates for the various components' power draw seem accurate enough. DVD drive playing back a DVD is probably 5W, a little more for initial spin-up. I await my free beer and cookies with g...

Power requirements / PSU recommendations for mini ITX system

Hi folks, Hope some of you can point me in the right direction here. I'm building a (general purpose) mini-itx system and as I can't cope with the idea of using any of the via CPU options I am intending to build this: 1 x Hoojum Cubit 3 1 x Socket 370 mobo (intel 815 - Freetech P6F135) 1 x P3 1.2GHz...
