I just put together my new rig with the ASUS Premium and Scythe Ninja couple of months ago. nomoon is correct, you can use the backplate installed on the motherboard. However, you have to use the screws that come with the Ninja, as they are longer. The thread sizing is compatible with the existing b...

If I remember correctly the aluminum covers are clamped to the sidepanels, aren't they? If so, how could there be any 'delamination' as you put it at all? I looked at the side panels today, and it appears that the large middle section of the outer plastic covering is glued to the inner aluminum sub...

P180 - Side Panel Quality Control issues
I purchased a P-180 several months back and am finding that one of the side panels is "delaminating". In other words, the outer plastic layer is buckling and separating from the metallic substrate underneith. I don't expose the case to any extreme temperatures, and the panel in question is the right...

Seasonic S330 - options for using a PCI-E graphics card
I currently use a Seasonic S12 330 power supply and am very happy with it. However, I'm upgrading my processor, which is necesitating a change in motherboard, which in turn is necesitating a change to a PCI-E video card (It must be a conspiracy! :D ). Anyways, my understanding is that my S330 does n...

GENERAL QUESTION TO EXPERIENCED SILENCERS AND/OR EXPERTS: So now we have two successful S12 fan mods (thanks to hmronin and Badger!). Both have opted not to use the fan controller in the S12. Question is, can one be considered on the safe side to use the PSU controller with a S12 fan mod? Or is it ...

Just one thing occured to me. I should have realized that there would have been no case temp differences since you are using the P180  , but what about the PSU? Although the S12 has a very high efficency rating, thereby generating very little of its own heat, it still produces heat. If your T...

he only problem now is that I'll have to have an electrician relocate the meters, as they are live. I'll probably just live with the sound until I rewire the house anyways... Live with the sound!!?? First and foremost, did you take pictures? And what es a "quick disconnect" - is that simply a three pin molex connector? So you didn't have to soder any wires? At how many RPMs are you running the PSU fan? Have you noticed any temp differences in your case? After having discovered what the real cu...

Here's an update to my last post. Sorry for the delay, but you'll see why it took as long as it did. I did go ahead and replace the ADDA fan in my S12 330 with the Nexus 120. The procedure is fairly simple. It does require you to break the warrantee seal on the PSU cover, so be aware of that. After ...

Hey hmronin, the S12 has a fan rpm monitor cable - on mine its a two wires, black and blue. It has only the RPM monitoring wire and ground, no power. I just hooked up to my motherboard (ASUS P4PE) and read out the rpms over the Asus PC Probe software. I am not familiar with the T-Balancer, but mayb...

1. Remove the cover off any (halfway decent?) PSU. 2. Remove the fan. 3. Mount it coverless and fanless in the P180. 4. Block the extra vent holes below the PSU exhaust on the back panel of the case. 5. Mount the quietest 120mm fan you can get your hands on in the PSU chamber and run it at the lowe...

Seasonic S12 Fan Upgrade
I'm considering replacing the ADDA fan used in my S12-330 with something else. Has anyone tried doing this and found quieter results using another brand of fan? Also be interested in any other technical parameters you had to consider, since the S12 has its own fan controller, as well as any procedur...

Here's my 2 cents to the discussion: I put an S12-430 in my P180 with the hopes that the fan in the S12 would cool my HD by drawing air in through the front of the case. My HD temps were in the 50s. I put a Nexus fan in the center of the lower chamber and now my HD temps are 36-40C. It seems that t...

Serries? You're getting confused here alright :), the airflow for an s12 fan is in through the front of the case, over the HDs, then hits the back of the s12 and the airflow out the front of the PSU, then down and through the bottom of the PSU before being exausted out the back (mostly, some will b...

I wouldn't be so sure on the money side, the phantom is 5% more efficent than the s12 @ 200W load and that only increases if you have a higher load. If you're using a high powered system then the waste heat cost starts to build up if you're one of those people who leaves thier computer on all day. ...

My problem with the Phantom 500 (or 350W) is that it's performance isn't that stable when pushed. DFI Street aren't recommending Phantom 500 for systems using their Nforce 4 based motherboards. The S12 (500W or 600W) seems to be that compromise of power/stability/silence, though some people are hav...

If you're planning to run with dual SLI in the future, especially with dual 7800's, I would think the differences between an S12 vs. a fanless plus internal case fan would be negligable, as compared with trying to attenuate the acoustics of dual VGA cards. I'd wager you wouldn't even hear the S12, o...

Using a fanless PSU makes more sense in the P180 than a s12. It's designed for a straight through airflow, while the s12 is desinged to act as a means of evacuating heat from the CPU. It's the wrong design to get the most out of the case. Seasonic do straight though PSUs don't they? I'd go with one...

http://www.silentpcreview.com/files/images/p180/PSU-installed.jpg This "heat issue" isn't all that much of a problem. The s12 design just doesn't seem to be well suited to the 180's seperate chamber system, you want a straight through fan rather than a fan that operates at 90 degrees. The 120mm PSU...

Does it really matter if they are identified as Yate Loons though? If company X decided to start offering rebadged YL 120mm's, people could just look for company X's orange 120mm fans and be sure to get a good quiet fan. If YL doesn't want to sell their own fans, someone else will. That's what Nexu...
