Qualitatively, my 21.5" mac is very quite. I can sometimes find it difficult to know if the machine is in standby or the screen is just shutoff. The 1TB disk is model WD1001FALS, 1TB w/32MB cache. I can hear it on I/O but beyond that I can't hear distinctive drive noises. The fans seem to be really ...

I'm going to University now, and I'm frustrated enough carrying around a 15" laptop. I'd collapse of exhaustion after a full day carrying around a 17" system. I'm so much into a 13" or less and a primary workstation (desktop) at home right now. But yeah, Windows runs great using bootcamp on Apple ma...

I noticed in the review Mike said that there wasn't a PCI-E VGA connector. If there is a later model out, does it have one. In otherwords, are the 430's that are shipping now equipped with a PCI-E connector. -Kevin Mine did, but I bought it in S. Korea. As I noted in a prior reply to this topic, no...

Nice and surprising review. I'm tickled by the mention of FLAC ( Free Lossless Audio Codec ). I've been using it for a few years now. It is a solid format. I definitely share disdain towards formats that remove sound that the algorithm suspects cannot be heard... bullsh*t :-) Lossy is a complete rip...

I just set up a Vendor: TOSHIBA Model: MK1032GAX Rev: 0811 into an Adaptec 2.5" USB2 enclosure. The drive is super quiet, as can be expected from Toshiba lineage. I can't hear it unless my ear is within 4" of the enclosure, and even then it is a strain. The 16mb cache is definitely a performer: MK10...

great! I just bought 85cents worth of "Air Conditioner Weatherseal", cut two strips slightly larger than the drive, sat them within the 5.5" drive carriage, and put my 10000rpm drive on top of them. Air flow in the case is such that hot air is being sucked from the bay, so it is well ventilated. Vib...

good question... my 3200 supposedly idles at 26c. That is only 4c above my room temperature. I imagine it's a few centigrade higher than that. Motherboard sensors seem to have a difficult time being correctly calibrated, or are just plain inaccurate. I'm using an ABIT board with uGuru. CPU maxes out...

Hmmmmm. Considering that my GF6600GT AGP fan is by far the most annoying POS EVER to grace my stomping grounds (it chitters and whines like nothing else).... and that I found out the hard-way that one passive solution from Zalman couldn't be fitted to it because of that darn pci-x to agp translation...

I'm contemplating this so as to enable use of two 3.25" drives without case amplification of drive seeks: *cut the lower 3.25" drive bay off from the drive carriage *drill one hole at each end on each seating rail of the carriage *drill matching holes on case support structure, and *rig up a isolati...

This Shuttle looks real nice. I've never thought twice about these little systems -- this is finally the exception. The power-draw is excellent, and on par with what I've been wanting. I do believe that the upfront cost is justified by the default power-draw. I have two systems now, and I expect the...

Re: Seasonic S12-430: Beyond the Super Tornado

The new S12-430 is an incremental but real improvement over the Super Tornado 400. I picked up the S12-430 at the Yongsan Electronics Market in Seoul a few days ago. It came with a 6pin PCI-E connector, but, did not come with a 24p to 20p ATX adapter. Fortunately my dead Enermax came with it, so I ...
