Re: Silent 13900kf Build (Water?)
Looks like the cooler is installed well. Here are a couple of articles on 13900k and performance vs power limits, etc. Note the Puget Systems one that's using the noctua NH-U12A :) Anandtech roughly a 20% performance drop with a 50% drop in power limit for heavy tasks...not must diff in dps for game...

Re: Silent 13900kf Build (Water?)
Some thoughts: - is the cooler attached well? If you can look at your CPU temperature as a data logged graph, load the cpu for several seconds and then let it go to idle. The temperature should drop rapidly in a very short period of time (like 90% delta drop in a second or two). If it doesn't, then ...

Re: Finding Optimal Upgrade Paths
RAM capacity and speed: it's all about the capacitive load. More RAM chips, longer circuit traces, additional RAM banks...it all adds more capacitance to the data lines which in turn slows the rise/fall of the data waveform, which in turn determines the max speed the RAM can run at and still be 'in ...

It's great to see they recovered/moved forward with another test chamber. Can't wait to see what the baseline noise spectrum looks like. I haven't seen/heard any mention of returning to written content..

Re: Finding Optimal Upgrade Paths
Mmm, not sure I'd go with a DDR4 motherboard and RAM anymore. DDR5-5600/6000 has come down in price, gives a bump in performance over DDR4-3200, and is forward looking. You can get 2x16GB for 100 euros.

Re: Finding Optimal Upgrade Paths
Let me throw this out there: check out the RTX 4060 . It's maybe 12% slower than the Rx6700 XT in gaming, but for many GPGPU tasks like Blender , it's faster and it uses about 1/2 the power of the 6700 XT. So, should run much cooler and quieter with a decent make/model. Not sure how they are pricing...

Re: Finding Optimal Upgrade Paths
Welcome back. - How many euros do you wish to throw at the problem? That will help constrain what we look to replace. - You might wish to look at the current generation of AMD CPUs for better performance/watt. Something like the Ryzen 5 7600 would use roughly the same power as your Ivy Bridge CPU an...

Re: My build plan
I worry about things like bit-error rates and longevity, as most companies have adopted TLC and QLC exclusively. I think only Samsung uses MLC (more reliable) anymore. <shrug> I think it's all about lifetime writes. I doubt your usage will come close to the SSD's lifetime writes over the PC's lifet...

Storage :) How much do you need? What's your game plan for it? How are you going to do backups? Chances are you can get away with just an M.2 PCIe SSD for everything but archival storage and an 'only spinning during backup' SATA HDD for the latter. I haven't seen any reviews for the motherboard by r...

Nope - that's different circuitry. I could only find one decent Focus PX 750 review @ Tom's. The Prime reviews all seem to be Titanium...whispercat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 23, 2023 6:40 pmPlatinum. Specifically 750-px.
If the PRIME has tighter voltage regulation, would this mean it could handle transient spikes better?

Re: Seasonic FOCUS vs PRIME?
Which Focus and which Prime? There are Gold/Platinum rated Focus and Gold/Platinum/Titanium rated Primes.
In general, the Primes have tighter load regulation, bigger fans (135mm vs 120mm), longer warranty (12yr vs 10yr).
Corsair quality is fine.

Re: Any Nividia RTX 3000 series cards with more than 8 GB VRAM?
You might look for benchmark reviews that use the video editing and 3D modeling tools you use and see if there is an appreciable difference in performance for the Ti and non-Ti versions. Everything else you listed is effectively idling.

Asus Strix OC V2 in the Quiet BIOS setting is probably the best of the 3060's.

$550CAN at Memory Express.
I don't know when the 4060's will be released...might be announced at CES this week, might not come out until June.

Re: New AMD Zen 4 launch
I remember Linus once mentioning that the electronics industry in China slows down between Feb and about May because of Chinese New Year and factories doing inventory during that time, etc. and that this has an effect on pricing. Yeah, that's utter nonsense. A mobo mfgr isn't going to limit their r...

Re: New AMD Zen 4 launch
Yep. I looked at the 5900X pricing, and granted there were tight supplies last year, but it appears there was a price dip for the Nov/Dec time frame, then it went back up until March, then dove. So, short term, the 7900X pricing is maybe as good as it gets. My 6 mo rule is more of a: - buy at launch...

Re: New AMD Zen 4 launch
Most CPU "bugs" post launch are firmware issues, not chip hardware issues. So, that means a BIOS/driver update - not a "we have to change the silicon" problem. The few times buggy silicon have been released into the wild, the problem has been discovered pretty quick and hailed loudly on the tech new...

Re: New AMD Zen 4 launch
...sort of. New CPU releases generally come out with a new motherboard chipset. So, if you are waiting for the mobo firmware to settle out, you are by default waiting for any initial BIOS/driver issues associated with the CPU to settle out. These days, AMD and Intel are doing staggered releases, bri...

Re: MSI RTX 3060 ti Gaming X LHR (two fan)
Impossible to say without any technical details available. There weren't any reviews for a 2-fanned MSI GTX 3060 either. Oddly, it's the highest priced of the 3 sku's, but that could be for the bump in clock speed and the rgb bling. The Asus STRIX OC in quiet BIOS mode does have the best temp and sl...

Re: New AMD Zen 4 launch
Die shrinks (more wattage/heat in a smaller area) and the desire to run faster/further up the voltage/freq curve makes the X chips run so hot. As you noted, you could:
- enable the eco mode
- wait for the non-X parts to come out..I expect they be 65W TDP parts.
- limit the TDP in BIOS.
