Re: SATA SSD for PATA motherboard?
Hi FrankL, I am a proud owner of a Thinkpad T43. SSD upgrade has also been on my mind for a while but that Marvell SATA-IDE bridge bugged me to no end. (Although some guys went to the lengths of removing it) Watching the new drive adapters popping up on ebay everyday finally made me want to go the a...

OCZ ModStream 400W..... Fan swap??
Alright, so the rest of my system is running on Arctic Cooling stuff, AC3 80's on 5v, Freezer4 with fan removed, and NV5 (which actually is the loudest part of the system, apart from the PSU). Barracuda IV hard drive, DM10 external drive and nothing else. So, looking at my sig, what do you think is ...

Doing a search for "headphone neck cloth" came up with this . Is that what you were looking for? AH!!! You are a genius sir, I don't know how many times I've searched those keywords and it didnt return me anything worthy of looking. Well, those are it! Although... I'd still like it if it was blueto...

Headphones enclosed totally in cloth.... what are they
I've been seeing them around lately. Basically, still behind-the-neck design like those sony street-style headphones, but, the whole thing is enclosed in cloth. To help you picture the headphones, imagine a pantiliner long enough to reach ear-to-ear, crossing behind your neck. well, now that I've pu...

3.5" HDDs draw on both the 12V and 5V lines, so a power brick is impractical, as few have more than a single output voltage line. You could just look for the smallest PSU to hack up. Two HDDs will not draw more than 40W total, so any old PC PSU made in the last couple decades (with 4-pin molex conn...

Most compact power supply JUST for hard drives
Alright here's the story. I'm building myself a dual-300Gb external hard drive enclosure with those IDE -> USB2.0 convertors, and instead of using 2 of those weak small external powerbricks, I want to have one thing that has just enough amps for the 2 Diamondmax10's. 12V 4A and 5V 4A is all I want, ...

Ok.... DM10 200Gb from retailers:
$84 DM10 200Gb
And um yeah.. that WAS quite mean to say stop downloading lol... Hard these days to have a grand total of storage space of less than 100Gb.

Well, you can concider the Maxtor's. Rumor has it that the Maxline III is basically a twin of the DM10, just with a better warrenty. I won't question that either, since the DM10 for me REALLY is just superb. Noise levels for a 300Gb, win win. Performance, well, like you said, it's not that important...

Check eBay for the 160Gb Seagate 7200.9's, I've seen some review on them, where they say it's ok for silence, and stats show that burst transfer rates can reach up to like 237mb/s or something. Best of all, it can be had for oh lets say around $78 USD........ So, pay your shipping whatever, probably...

I may be underjudging the Seagates, but I don't think the 7200.8 is THAT loud. I own the Barracuda IV 40G, 7200.7 160G, and 7200.8 250G SATA. Barracuda IV PATA 100 - ST340016A - 40Gb - F/W 3.75 - Singapore - Date code 02361 - Site code AMK: Well, what can I say really. King of Quiet. It does get war...

I don't think Seagate is intentionally pissing us off with the sound. If it was all for the better to remove it of course they would, they realize the amount of complains recieved across their WHOLE lineup and obviously they'd like to have happier customers. But the fact that they're not doing a THI...

Corsair XMS failed Windows Memory Diagnostics?
I know there isn't a section for ram, and this forum isn't a place for error troubleshooting, but here goes the problem. A friend of mine bought a single stick of Corsair XMS CMX256-3200C2PT, 256Mb 400MHz CL2 ram, and he said that the ram failed the "WMATS+" and the "WINVC" part of the diagnostics. ...

It seems at idle it will randomly for long periods of time make lots of seek noise. Sometimes I will be downloading something to the drive, but even if I turn the downloads off, the noise continues. So, the periods when it does this seem to be random. I get it on my 7200.7 also. Seems like a common...

Obviously we'd need special platforms, either the ASUS convertor or the dedicated motherboards. Here's the thing. We KNOW the 479's will work, but the ones labeled 478........ where are they used? I mean, if BOTH the 479 and 478 Pentium-M's are being offered in laptops, there must be no difference i...

Pentium-M 478 vs 479, WHATS THE DIFF??
No, I know what I'm talking about. But look here, on the Intel site. These are BOTH Pentium-M 750's, exactly the same specs, but the socket is different. what the heck?
750 S478
750 S479
And there's lots of these examples too, check the Intel Spec Finder

Available µATX's for P-M? (ALL CASES)
There's numerous µATX threads popping around this category, but I can't help but thinking I'm lacking selection. I'm deciding to buying a µATX case but I don't know which one to pick, since I've not seen many, so I'm asking everyone to put a selection of µATX that is either empty, or a barebone for ...
