And please define "obsolete". "640kB is more than anyone will ever need." And how can you spec such a system today? I'd think about it like this; instead of spending 1000$ now, spend 500$ now, and 500$ in 4 years. I agree. I say there's nothing wrong with the power of an eee box for mom/dad use, al...

I find it amusing looking at the spec that are being mentioned. Quad core? 4GB? How would such a machine be any better than a Sempron or EEEPC for email/web/Office? And please define "obsolete". Does email stop working for an "obsolete" Core 2 Duo machine?

For a normal medium-to-high performance system, Intel wins. For low-power HTPC, AMD all the way. That's only due to chipset design however...780G is a god-send for onboard HD playback. It allows you to use a slower, cooler processor and no GPU. I agree. I think AMD still has a market for affordable...

I thought about raising hell with Enermax, blasting them on various forums including this one, but looked at my credit card statements and couldn't find the line showing my purchase and smiled. I've tidied up my cabling inside the Solo, but I bought a bolt-thru kit for my Ninja...

I've got the Modu82+ 425W that I won from the draw. Next to the Scythe Slipstream 120mm fan in the Antec Solo, turned down to ~730rpm using a Fanmate, I can only hear the Scythe and not the PS. However, I'm trying to read the fan speed of my Modu82+ 425w. Using it with my Asrock Conroe954G-DVI, I ca...

I have a couple of those Netgears as well. GS105/108. They are passively cooled and are very compact. The ac adapters are rated 12V 1A, so no more than 12W, but I think I measured mine to draw ~5W? Not sure how much that fluctuates with load.

Has anyone tried this as a MythTV Frontend? The version with s-video would make a nice cheap frontend.

If you already have a MythTV setup, this can be tested easily with Mythbuntu. Using Mythbuntu 7.10 (www.mythbuntu.org), I've been able to get a frontend up and running in ~20 minutes!

The problems with G33's graphics are: only one DVI output, the other would go through add-in ADD2 card and they have limited resolutions (1600x1200) and the ones that don't are hard to find. Plus the adapter itself is documented to not allow more than 1600x1200 in 3D accelerated mode and I wanted t...

Which S754 runs cooler? Sempron 64 or A64 Newcastle 3000+

I'm looking for a CPU for my HTPC which will be based on a Socket 754 motherboard. I have a Sempron 64 2500+ right now - didn't realize it doesn't support Cool 'n Quiet until after the purchase. Given the choice, will a Sempron 64 3000+ (Palermo @ 90nm) be cooler, or an Athlon 64 3000+ (Newcastle @ ...
