Re: Fanless 550Ti?

I would say:

Zotac GT240 passive (hope they are still available)

Asus 1GB Nvidia Geforce GTS 450 Directcu Silent PCI-E Graphics Card (available in the UK)

(They dont use a PCI-E power connector)

Re: Fanless 550Ti?

I've got a 450GTS Fanless from (Asus 1GB Nvidia Geforce GTS 450 Directcu Silent) however it uses slower DDR3 ram, if you look at the power pull for a DDR5 550Ti, its well over 100 watts.

Probably too much for passive and I've not seen one DDR3 based 550 on the market.

Re: Basic question - Lazy motherboard upgrade?

Just a quick update, I installed a Asus P8H61-M motherboard, plugged everything back and Vista booted without problems. Installed the latest Intel INF drivers and after a reboot I was back to normal.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Basic question - Lazy motherboard upgrade?

I've never worked with Vista but the biggest problem I got moving XP installs around used to be drivers for the system drive. In your case, that shouldn't be a problem. Reinstalling in place also used to work decently (some settings were picked up from the existing install and so on). So that might...

Basic question - Lazy motherboard upgrade?

Hi everyone, I have a 'noob' question regarding a motherboard upgrade; Currently, I have an ancient (2006) Socket 479 Core Duo MOTD / Intel 945GM / Intel ICH7 motherboard with: - GTS450 - Asus DS - Two AHCI SATA drives - Vista 32bit RETAIL What would happen if I plugged the VGA, sounds and drives in...

Hi, I've just tried a sparkle passive 9600gt against my passive msi 8600gts; 8600gts = 60 watts idle 9600gt = 74 watts idle (I have a typical MODT system), I've seen the odd post about some suppliers not implementing the proper 2d clockdown etc, I dont know whether this is true. Anyway I was disappo...

Thanks, what you expect overall power consumption to be with a Gigabyte board? The lowest that I managed when using a G33 board with the IGP was 50.5W with a Core 2 Duo E4500 (0.992V) at stock speed and 48.5W with a Pentium Dual Core E2140 (0.93125V) at stock speed. They were both M0 revision chips...

I did some measuring when I built it with a very cheap wattage meter so I don't know how accurate it is. The more recent 65nm chips under-volt very well so it’s possible that the 45nm chips will have some decent headroom also. If you want to go down that route I’d recommend Gigabyte as they seem to go as low as 0.5V in just about all their boards these days. This will definitely help keep the idle...

Motherboard recommendation for new 45nm Intel CPUs

Hi everyone, The performance of the new wolfdale chips has got me interested in intel desktop systems again; http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/intel-wolfdale_11.html#sect0 Can anyone recommend and efficient MB for this new chip, I've found some data in a past post, that 945/965/p35 boards...

Idle 8600gts = 60 watts
Idle 3850 = 50 watts

Intel chops mobile CPU prices, intros Core 2 Solo line

http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/09/07/intel_price_cuts/ Intel has confirmed yesterday's processor price cuts, which saw up to 40 per cent knocked off what the chip giant charges for some of its CPUs. A batch of new ones were released too, including the first single-core Core 2 processors. The upda...

I have a Asus N4L-VM DH MB with a t7400 cpu, playing the hardest 1080p would use ~75% cpu at the full 2.13ghz. Don't let the prospect of having to update the BIOS on the N4L-VM DH put you off too much. All you need is that old floppy drive sitting in your closet. You can download the latest update from Asus, put in on a floppy and use it to flash the board. I did this successfully with a T7400. As for the R...
