What did you use to get your temps for your E8400? I've been reading into this, and a lot of people are having problems getting good temp readings on Wolfdale chips (E7xxx and E8xxx series Core2Duos) I know... I used coretemp and speedfan and they both gave the same results (~49 for the "CPU" and ~...

I hope you took off the heatsink before you packed it up. Airport baggage workers aren't known for being careful. It seriously could damage your mainboard, CPU, or video card... not to mention the HR-01+!!! ... OT, I've tried playing CS. Spawn, walk around, get shot.... respawn, walk around looking...

WOW, even running passive, the HR-01+ does noticeably better than the stock Intel HSF. Very nice. And I think your heatsink would benefit the better air flow by rotating it 90 degrees. You're running a 7300GT and getting those temps? I've heard of others getting the same temps for the HD4xxx series...

A nice build. Note that its temps are a bit higher than my somewhat similar, ducted system's. Do you have a Kill-a-watt? Also, try CoreTemp in "delta" mode if you don't trust the mobo reporting. The Earthwatts is a surprisingly quiet PSU when you consider the 80mm fan & price. It is good enough to ...

Alright, I don't know how much I can trust the sensors on the board/CPU, but here are the results after 20 minutes of ATItool + prime 95. I put the side and top panels on, too. I turned down the system fan to 50% in Speedfan so it's running at 800RPM now. Idle: CPU0: 43C CPU1: 37C GPU: 45C After 20 ...

Turn your heatsink 90 degrees so that more of its hot air gets pulled out by the rear case fan. That way, the PSU fan should run quieter since it'll be getting cooler air. When I mounted it, I thought it could only go one way since it looked like there was a row of capacitors that would block one o...

What do you think of the 380W Earthwatts PSU. Is it fairly quiet? Quieter than my old 485W Enermax haha. I would say, subjectively, that it's about as loud as the hard drive idling and the 120mm fan is louder. Really, it's an 80mm fan running at pretty low speeds at the back of the case, and I have...

My first quiet build!

Well, I wouldn't go as far as to call this a particularly powerful computer, nor is it that quiet, but it uses a few silent PC tricks so I figured I may as well post a few pics of my new setup. Specs: NSK3480 w/ stock 380W Earthwatts E8400 @ 3ghz (no overclock... yet) w/ HR-01+ 4GB OCZ PC-6400 Gefor...

Hmmm. Does anyone know where to find the PSK-5000 in Canada? I really want the UltraX, but it seems to have been discontinued (Confirmation?!) . FWIW, it's still available here in the US: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16823126135 Now I need to find an American to buy it for me....

The reverse wing doesn't work in my design anyway, since the case isn't big enough from the video card DOWN. And, to answer the last question, with this comp, I'd like to have a fairly powerful everyday comp that won't choke on games (Doesn't need to be extremely high end, but the equiv of a 7600GT-...

An inverted Condor will most likely be somewhat less efficient due to non-optimal heatpipe orientation. Hmmm. I just got an e-mail back from aerocase, they said the only way is to get a reverse-wing. Heatpipe orientation shouldn't make a difference, but the way the heat'll be going seems awfully in...

Nevertheless, I have some advice for a fanless design. First off, I suggest mounting the motherboard so the ports are on top (or on the bottom). IMO, the only solution is a Condor + a Ninja in a standard ATX case with top and bottom panels cut out \ meshed. That pretty much fits the bill, and that's what I'm going for. Is there any way to modify the Condor? The Ninja is ~6" tall, and the Condor only gives ~4-5 inches of clearance.. I don't ...

Suggestions for fanless home build?

Sometime in the future I'm going to be building a fanless computer and I'd like to know the feasability of it. The setup I'm looking for would include an mATX motherboard, Conroe (or whatever's low power and new at the time), a couple gigs of RAM, and (possibly) a mid-end video card (7600GT equivale...

My current (fanless) Yesico 350W PSU occasionally has problems with my current PC, while my 400W Zalman works fine.. That's because the Yesico only has 16A (!!) on the 12v rail. Very, very, VERY weak. Also, to whoever said that the 1900XTX pulled 175W, I believe that was the whole system (not compl...

Re: Build-a-Case

When you said this, I thought of something a bit odd, but interesting. Take a PSU with a bottom intake/fan and mount that sideways. By this, I mean that the PSU is mounted on the side, with the intake fan exposed to the side of the case and the back to the back of the case, exhausting air. Perhaps ...

Build-a-Case

This is a serious long-term project that I'm going to be working on once I finish my watercooling setup (which is turning out to be fairly noisy, but I can live, I guess). I'm looking at completely building a case, from scratch, from the ground up. Right now, I'm starting at zero. Any case designs, ...

You can get a thermochill pa160 along with a swiftech mcp350, a storm or really any swiftech CPU block as well as a swiftech GPU block, strap on a 5v Yate Loon, and you'll be laughing. As long as you don't overclock, at least.

Someone on an overclockers forum lived next to a stream and suggested using that for watercooling - bad idea, the warmer water would harm life downstream. Keep to closed loops. Relocating the pump would be a much better idea if silence is your concern. The amount of heat a watercooling setup puts o...

350RPM... nothing a little voltage regulation can't handle :P. Nexus are hand-picked from yate loons, correct? Still, the black ones are probably around the same quality (Unless you get a real lemon), plus they're about 2/5 the price of the painfully orange ones, so you can't complain. Still the que...

Orange fans?! Psshhtt, how 'bout some black Yate Loons for seven bucks a pop  ?

That's cleared a lot of things up. Yes, my watercooling will be external, so there shouldn't be much of a problem there.

Also, unrelated, does Adda make goods fans? (Just curious)

Case Windows & Consequences

I know that case windows are frowned upon for quiet rigs. Is this because of sound being able to escape, or is this just because of the added vibration? If I were to mount the window with soft materials in between the window and side panel, would I see better results? If I'm not using a CPU fan (wat...
