I have the drive. It's fast and pretty quiet in my system EXCEPT for the seek which is quite loud, but not irritating. I can't hear the whine. I have looked at the bottom to remove the screws. I heard from here it's a Torx fit? What size? I need to get one. Is this size Torx common in computer gear?...

Listening to the noise samples again, the Caviar idle does sound like this, and in relation to the Seagate samples is a bit louder. I built audio playback and recording computers, and have tried many of the quiet drives including the Seagates and the Spinpoints. New 500GB Caviar - Not so Quiet!

I got the new 500GB Caviar (HD 500G|WD 7K 16M SATA2 WD5000KS ) to replace two of the very quiet Barracuda IVs in my system.
