Re: Intel Core i3-2100 vs. AMD Phenom II X2 565

Seeing as how the 565 was a BE, it should have made for some super easy overclocking... and the SB Core i3 is essentially not overclockable at all... I wonder how the X2 would have performed against the i3 after bumping up the multiplier. The X2 needs at least a 1GHz overclock to realistically comp...

Re: Intel Core i3-2100 vs. AMD Phenom II X2 565

Going by Anandtech's bench comparison, the i3 has arguably more throughput than the X4 810:

I appreciate the break down ... I'm running a Q6600 2.4Ghz system, I will upgrade when 5Ghz systems come out. I don't move until a doubling of tech has been made available. Arguably the 2600K is there now, especially with applications that can take advantage of 8 threads of processing, like video e...

A counterpoint to the lostcircuits findings is at http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/phenom-athlon-ii-x2_12.html#sect0 -- they obtained similar results as we did, and they were using an FX (no onboard video) board for AMD. Techreport's systems are also significantly different, most notably using the 4870 which has high idle power use. The C2D Intel systems also use the more power hungry X48 chipset versus the SPCR review with the P45.

The E5300 should have no problems meeting your requirements. Its measured power consumption is very low.

Measurements of the QX9650 have it using around 70W under full load. If you can use passive cooling with a Prescott, a 45nm quad-core will be piece of cake by comparison.

That's not fair, the 6000+ is a 90nm part, the comparision should be against current 65nm parts.

The 65W TDP is misleading, because it's used for virtually the entire Core 2-based family, up to the 3GHz E6850. The realworld power measurements place the E2100 series at <30W full-load.
