Honestly, you could shave a significant amount off by dropping the amount of RAM. Why do you need 16 GB? I'm a professional graphic designer, and I've never used a computer with more than 2 GB. Noise wise, for my 2.66 Ghz Quad Core / single drive system: On boot, the machine ramps to full speed as p...

StuffIt can also make .zip files, and the windows version is capable of opening both .sit and .zip files (and it's free too, at least as a demo version). If they're too big to email/upload, one option is to simply hook up the hard drive to your windows PC and purchase software called 'MacDrive' whic...

Also, Saribro, DTRs can get quite loud, so I consider the low noise level of the iMac a bonus. Regarding a couple questions/points, there are no available inputs on the LCD. However the iMac does come with a video out that can output to DVI, VGA, etc. Unlike previous generations of iMacs, these new ...

Well if anyone is comparing the Noise to the old quad G5, "more silent" does not mean anything by spcr standards. They are damn noisy machines. Didn't get any Mac Pro's here (at work) yet, but when we do it will be hard to judge due to the AC and other background noises. I got a free G4 PowerMac fr...

I'm looking at picking up a 4400 for my next build (a budget gaming rig, nothing fancy). I have a question about the PSU though - where does it pull air through? The front bezel, or the holes on the side of the 'tunnel' inside the case? If it pulls through the front, I'd just open up one of those 5 ...

Scythe also makes a 92/100mm fan (mounts in either size) that runs @ 1000RPM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835185024
and 1500RPM and 2000RPM as well.

I can't vouch for any noise levels, but they're worth a look.

Also to be fair, AMD's page explicitly states that it isn't a comprehensive list of acceptable cooling solutions, and that even the listed heatsinks shouldn't be used without proper testing.

Well, nVidia has said that technically all 6X00 and 7X00 GPUs are capable of using HDCP, but the individual board manufacturer has to implement it during the actual build of the process. Thus far, none have done so. Several vendors (I wish I could remember where I saw the info) have said that when B...

Re: NV Silencer noise One of the easiest ways to ramp down the Silencer is to install RivaTuner. While you can go crazy setting up multiple fan profiles that switch based on temperature, the easiest thing to do is to set up one profile that's something like: 2D - 35%, Low 3D - 55%, and High 3D - 75%...

I'm going with the Pioneer DVR-111 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827129002 Supposedly the upper chassis has been redesigned in order to further reduce noise vibration. If it's as quiet as the DVR-110, you'll be happy, I think. My 110 sits on my desk in a firewire case, right ...

I think the fan on the 7800 series is 'fairly quiet' only when compared to the previous 6800 series fans, and most other stock high-end video card cooling setups.

My (limited) experience is that it's still fairly loud, but not the leafblower/dustbuster noise that the previous gen cards had.

I think it's ok for use in an office, but for my room it's too noisy. I just put the machine into reduced mode which should run on 1Ghz. While typing this the cpu is around 50C and the fan kicks in again. My friend has a ibm T42 laptop running 7/24 and never hears the fan turning on. Now I'm waitin...

Just to throw in a couple tidbits: 1) the 12" Powerbooks run notoriously hot and loud - too much heat in too small a space. The 15" & 17" powerbooks are much quieter. 2) 45° C is -not- an unreasonable temp for a G4 - as long as they don't hit 65° under load, you're ok. You might want to invest in a ...
