Insurance is paying for a new PC... need a price quote pls

I got burglarized, and insurance is covering the multitude of stuff that got stolen. Among it all was a custom built computer with top quality parts (about 3 months old). I need to get a retail quote for having this PC built. I'll list the components I want, but I need someone/business that will quo...

@Big A: That's a wonderful response. Thoughtful and very helpful for what actually might happen with me. I think you struck the balances about where I actually would in the land of "nice." As a matter of fact, two separate computers had just become an option, and the KVM switch is something to learn...

@mb2: That's what I'm talking about. Thanks for the help.

@Big A: You make the call on all that. Let's say this is "nice" according to Big A's standards of nice. And, money is no object.

@Neil: Thanks for the fuschia welcome.

This is one of those annoying "that's not what I'm asking" type replies, but I'm about to do the same thing, and I just decided to build my computer in a standard enclosure THEN put that box inside my furniture. Your furniture may not be big enough, but I'm doing it so that I 1) can move the thing i...

Re: Quiet vs. Fast I have no rules. I'm fully aware that certain "nice" features are at odds with one another, but I'm just asking y'all's opinion of nice. You strike the balance where you think it fits best. Goals: fast, quiet, storage, video @mb2: That sounds like what I'm looking for, but you los...

What is the NICEST computer you could build?

There is a chance I"ll be asked to put together the nicest computer possible... fastest, highest storage, quietest. Money is no object.

What would y'all recommend?

The only limitations is that it must all be contained in a mid-tower enclosure.

Great... great... great. Thanks for all the help. I'm going to look into the Asus P5WDH Deluxe... I need that remote. @stromgald: thanks for reminding me about the RAM... and jacking my price up another $170 (ha). Quiet DVD drives? That just seems strange to me. I mean, if they're spinning, they're ...

@Rpost: I'll look at the latest ATI card when it comes time to buy. On the mobo, the problem is that I'm probably going to buy from TigerDirect, and the mobo/CPU combos decrease the price by 100s of dollars. It's hard to ignore that. QUESTION: What mobos should I lean toward and which ones should I...

@cmthomson - thanks to you, i just spent about 3 hours "rebuilding" my system... but i think this is it. and, again, huge save steering me to C2D over AMD. i liked AMD, but they never called anymore anyway. So here's the new system. Depending on insurance, I'll go with the C2DExtreme or the C2D E670...

@cmthomson: OK, then I'm going to order three Nexus 120s to replace the Antec fans. The Antec site says the lower chamber has a 120mm fan. Why did you have a 38mm fan? Also, do you think I need front and/or middle optional fans? Big question here: how do I undervolt a fan? C2D: I like Athlon. Why sh...

Do y'all recommend replacing the stock P180 case fan? If so, with what(s)?

Do I need to add another fan inside the case just to blow on the HDD?

What about a fan that is just going to mount inside my desk but outside the case?

Critique the rest of the system as much as you like. I love it.

Can I cool an ATI X1900XT with a Zalman VF900?

self-explanatory, but I'm building a new system, and I was planning on putting in the 1900XT to run my 23" Apple LCD.

i'm told the 1900 is twice as hot as the 1800, so i'm curious if the VF900 is going to sufficiently cool the 1900.

thanks.

Computer stolen; I'm building again, critiques please?

I spent two months researching, ordering, building, tweaking, ordering, and building more until I had a great machine. Skip forward a few months and a couple of crack-happy burglars now have that machine. (Side note: my roommate and I caught them after shooting up their car and chasing them, but my ...
