Re: want to replace the fan in my Stardom...

Hello five years later :D any solutions to 60mm x 10mm fans these days? I am dismayed to hear ;) the 126010DL is not quiet, I would've expected since it has two higher level siblings 126010DM and 126010DH it'd be the quiet one. Should I just suck it and go with a Noctua 40mm? What about the Scythe M...

Very nice! However, instead of grinding the bracket to move the heatsink what about pushing the fan forward instead? http://www.moddiy.com/products/Deepcool ... nting.html

Re: New passive (!) home server based on an E3-1240v3

I believe the Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H has heatsinks on its own http://www.gigabyte.com/fileupload/product/2/4567/8018_big.jpg plenty enough. Also, the HAF chassis arrived and it's so big the cooler fits even with the top fan left in; of course I removed it cos I don't need it. The overhang is not much ...

Re: New passive (!) home server based on an E3-1240v3

This project lapsed a bit; but the Vulcan is not cutting it, there's a HAF 922 on the way in. The Nofan hangs off the motherboard a little (I suspected it would) but the bulge on top of the Vulcan is not entirely side-to-side so it doesnt accomodate it. Dangit. Looking at actual pictures of builds w...

Re: New passive (!) home server based on an E3-1240v3

The memory is not yet here and I need to RMA the motherboard but the cooler landed today. It's huge . It absolutely dwarves the AXP-140 and that's not a small cooler. But the impressive size easily clears the motherboard components -- the standoffs are 1.5 inches (!) so the back ports or the "Ultra ...

Re: New passive (!) home server based on an E3-1240v3

Hi Bean, I'm very interested to see this passive build, to get ideas. You will use the original fans from the case? (Is it one front and one top?) Please put us some pictures of the settings inside your box. Why did you choose this case? With mATX, you could do a smaller one, still with HDD capacit...

I wonder whether an Accelero L2 PLUS without the fan would be enough (in a Temjin-E case, without the drive cage). This is an 55W video card after all.

Re: PicoPSU for i3-2100, discrete GPU

The DA-2 can be replaced by the 192W 12V AC-DC adapter that comes with a Mini-Fit-JR adapter. You'll only need a P4 y-splitter cablle. Best regards. OK, so http://www.mini-box.com/12v-16A-AC-DC-Power-Adapter take this, a pico-PSU and a P4 Y-Splitter http://www.ecrater.com/p/5738167/y-cable-splitter...

Given a 220W LiteOn brick and your DC-to-DC converter, do you think it's feasible to a) use the 19V input directly taken from the DC in (as in the "two converter" connection) and feed it to an Intel DH61AG motherboard b) use the converter to feed a Radeon 6770? Little home desktop / server

I wanted to put together a desktop / server. I have a bunch of 2.5" disks lying around... and even a 3.5" 1.5TB Samsung. So I was thinking of the ASUS E35M1-I DELUXE because it can eat up a lot of disks :) The In Win BP655.200BL case is both cheap and has a 8cm fan, not bad for ITX. I might add a lo...

320GB, the F4 is designed for speed with its entire storage in a single, half-platter design

to me it looks like they use both sides but only half of the sides to make it speedier.

This thing will sit in a closet like this http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/7717/closeti.jpg -- so not much in terms of noise insulation but still, some. Also, it will sit on a cork floor. I bet that helps :) The server needs to do two things: serve data off disks and crunch tests. I already have t...

Just the CPU. One, what the video card does is its own business, it only talks to the system over the PCI Express interface. More than that, a CPU being 64 bit is an absolute internal thing. The system is not affected by this at all. For example, many LGA 775 socket motherboards could be used by 32 ...
