A power supply that isn't on the list is Fortron's Sparkle Power 400W http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku= ... wer%20Intl. Great PSU for the price and uses an ADDA fan like the Seasonics.

@kunid So yeah it works the same way TVersity does. MPEG2 or MPEG1. That kind of encoding isn't heavy, but like I said it'll suck your hdd's bandwidth before the CPU if you're doing 2 1080p streams. At least in theory, I've never tried before. m2ts is a container used most commonly in HDTV captures....

Transcoding is going to MPEG so it's not all that taxing on the CPU. MPEG is very low CPU usage in general. that is not correct. your insistance on calling everything "mpeg" indicates that you are unable to differentiate between mpeg1, mpeg2, and mpeg4, which is critical knowledge for understanding...

Transcoding is going to MPEG so it's not all that taxing on the CPU. MPEG is very low CPU usage in general. Muxing, the task of moving video and audio into a container, is all dependent on how fast the HDD is. Transcoding IMO and many on doom9 would say it's a bad idea since you're essential re-enco...

I think you got it all backwards, or the wrong idea. Transcoding to MPEG doesn't use much CPU power at all. The CPU is simply there to decode the H.264 material. That's why you need at least a C2D 2.14 for 1080p. So a decent 7200RPM HDD will do fine for transcoding. However, you should simply use mk...

All I can say is... That's major overkill for a media server lol My media server has a lowly Sempron 140 and 1GB of ram, and a 785GM motherboard because it has 6 SATA spots. Adding additional SATA slots isn't hard by buying a few cheap SATA Controllers. My only comment is, if you can afford an Antec...

why use a X1 raid controller? use a PERC 5/i X8 controller, 8 sata connectors + hardware raid I only really have space left for 6 more drives. I guess a card that has 8 slots would be a lot more handy but I don't want to spend too much money on the hardware. The PCI-e 1x card for 2 slots (maybe 4 n...

Got all my parts and the system is finally built. Antec 300's fans are damn loud... and the stock cooler for the Sempron is hell loud, swapping those out when freezer64 and yateloon fans come in... Although maybe it was all in vain since it's a file server and the harddrives alone will produce so mu...

Looking for YateLoon Bulk Buy
I remember back a couple years, Yate Loon were really cheap. I remember one store selling them for like $2 a piece. I got 5 of them at the time. Does anyone remember which online site that was? or if there's anywhere that still sell them cheap? Like NCIX is selling them for one ridiculous price of $...

I've had this case up and running for a little while now. It's not Antec quality. Build quality is not bad, but the sheet metal is very thin so I guess it really needs its stick-on asphalt dampening plates. Speaking of the dampening plates; I just received a replacement set from Fractal Design free...

Building my mini-server (compared to Wibla's) this week. I ended up going with the following parts. Fortron 400W AMD Sempron 140 (Unlocks into a Athlon II X2) Antec 300 (6 HDD Slots, More with Modding) Giga 785GM Board 1GB DDR2 Ram (NCIX didn't price match my $70 4GB :( So using RAM that I found lay...

Think a AMD Athlon LE-1660 will be fast enough to be in a server? My basic setup was going to be about half the size of yours... Thinking of only needing to hold 8HDDs 1.5TB each, so only 12GB. I was thinking of picking up an Antec 300, and changing the 3 5.25 with suspension for more hdds, it alrea...

Dude your build inspires me! I need this so bad. I currently have 4 to 5TB worth of HDD space lying on my desk, I really need a machine like this to start stacking more HDDs. Will A 380W Work For This System?
mATX Board - Gigabyte GA-G31M (G31 Intel Chipset)
E6400
1 Stick of Ram
6 HDDs, Maybe 8.
SATA expansion PCI card
Powered by a 380W PSU by Antec, case is 4480B.
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.ph ... cid=CS.874
I'm just unsure how much power 6HDDs would draw out.

I recently went RAID 0 a month ago. It's great for what I do. I do a lot of video recording/editing. So lots of files get moved around from externals and stuff. My RAID 0 is actually 2 Notebook Harddrives WD 160s. I noticed a HUGE speed increase after they went RAID. Files move along my drives a lot...

S1 all the way. I just straped on to my X1950Pro and it works so nicely. No fan = same C as stock cooler at 80%. Add a 120mm fan working at 600RPM gets it even lower (roughly around 40C on load). If you really really really want the fan there's always the X1 by Arctic cooling which cools the card gr...

Windows on USB Flash or CF Practical?
That is the question. I was thinking about it lately and even tried googling some facts about it. But something still profounds me. How reliable would this be? I did read in some places that you can't use it as a main boot drive and really it's only to be used as a backup, should your windows ever c...
