Re: Scythe Mounting Clips - $0.99 ( USA | performance-pcs.com )

I should have added, although they're labeled for sockets 775 & 1366, these work with practically everything in between. The push-pins slide in/out in little grooves, so you can adjust to your mounting holes.

I'm using one on a LGA 1155 motherboard (Intel DH77EB).

Scythe Mounting Clips - $0.99 ( USA | performance-pcs.com )

Hey all For those of us who have older Scythe CPU coolers, Performance PCs has the adapter clips for more modern Intel sockets. They have 19 in stock as of writing. https://www.performance-pcs.com/air-cooling/heatsink-accessories/scythe-lga1366-mounting-clips-for-4-way-cpu-coolers-sccl4-1366-d.html ...

Re: LED lighting / mini-review GE Reveal BR30 LED 83574

In my case, this will be tested in a variety of recessed cans around my house before finding a permanent home in a stairwell, where it is replacing a horrible CFL flood (the warm-up time kills it - I'm usually up/down the stairs before the damn thing has reached full brightness). My other test locat...

Re: LED lighting / mini-review GE Reveal BR30 LED 83574

Hi Steve, Curious if you have tried other LED lamps since posting above. I never found a good price on those Reveals; always missed some sale or other by a day or two. I am picking up (at least) one of these Philips BR30 floods after work today. Home Depot has them for $6.97 / ea locally. Reviews su...

Re: troubleshooting black screens & boot failure

Conclusion for now - the problems have not reappeared. I still don't know what the actual problem is/was, but my HTPC has been happily doing its thing again for the past week without issue. I cancelled or returned the Skylake parts I ordered and will continue using my old HTPC for as long as possibl...

Re: troubleshooting black screens & boot failure

So I got the SSD to boot into Windows normally. Took a system image using Windows built-in backup & restore. Scanned through the event logs - no errors other than "unexpected shutdown" (no kidding!). Installed current Speedfan and ran the SMART long test. It found nothing wrong with the SSD; all SMA...

Re: troubleshooting black screens & boot failure

I don't have any critical data on the SSD. I'll image it just to make restoring to a new SSD more convenient (if that's my path forward). All my data is on the mechanical HDD or duplicated elsewhere. I had major issues running Speedfan 4.40 on this machine 5 years ago. I can try a newer version. Thi...

Re: troubleshooting black screens & boot failure

My guess: failing SSD. I would check the status with SSD Life . I'll look into that, thanks. Also, I misspoke: the SSD in this machine is a Crucial M4 - not a M500. Purchased in 2011 and outside of its 3-year warranty. If I can boot into Windows I'll try to take an image of the drive and then play ...

Re: Help: Braswell dual-lan motherboards?

the Jetway NF591 is available from Newegg for $189 and it has dual *Intel* NICs. The Jetway NF591 has Realtek NICs according to both Newegg and Jetway: http://www.jetwaycomputer.com/NF591.html There are some other barebones options around $200. The Shuttle DS57U, for example, is $215 from Newegg . ...

Re: Help: Braswell dual-lan motherboards?

Found your thread searching SPCR for "braswell". I don't have a great answer because this also has Realtek NICs, but Zotac recently released their CI323 fanless barebones mini-system. Newegg has it in stock @ $150. Not bad, considering dual LAN, Intel 802.11ac WLAN, IR, power brick, and fanless. htt...

Although I may move some machines to Windows 10, I am a little disgusted by this promotional stunt. The tray icon and associated GWX process came via Windows update KB3035583. Re: Zotac GTX 970 AMP! Extreme Core Noise Review

For me, this is the money shot: By default, the fans try to maintain a GPU temperature of 63~64°C which is a fairly aggressive goal in my opinion. Overriding the fan, I found that the minimum speed (which is a bit higher than at idle) is more than acceptable, even with this most taxing test. The GPU...

Re: Zotac GTX 970 AMP! Extreme Core Noise Review

Hi Lawrence,

Zotac may call it an update, but based on your firmware update screenshot it looks like a downgrade.
The firmware update screenshot wrote: Current - Version:84.04.36.00.11

Replace with - Version:84.04.36.00.00
Is the replacement officially from Zotac or is it older rev (84.04.36.00.00) modded by some 3rd-party?

I should add, performance is near enough identical to what I measured when new. My board's mSATA slot is SATA 3.0.

SSD boot drive disappears from BIOS; later reappers?

My desktop boot drive is a LiteOn LMT-256M6M mSATA drive. Technically, it's a HP rebrand of Lite-On's LMT-256M6M. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820326392 It's HP P/N: 738975-001. It was a steal when I bought it a year ago. And it's worked great until today. I used the PC afte...

Re: Quiet Mini-ITX Gaming Build Guide #2: NCASE M1 Edition

Curious: did you attempt air cooling the GPU? The review reads as if you just went straight for the Accelero hybrid cooler. We understand that 1) Blower-type GPU coolers exhaust outside the case, but are often too noisy (for SPCR) or inefficient compared to open multi-fan coolers. 2) Open multi-fan ...

That 5K320 is one of the quietest (top three? Top five?) HDDs of all time, though it's really slow (nowadays). It originally came in a budget Acer laptop that rec'd a SSD upgrade a while ago (an old OCZ Agility 2). The laptop's CPU fan behavior is completely annoying. It cycles between off and (wha...

Re: To cut or not to cut (giant holes in the bottom of my ca

I have a bazillion Yate Loon 120mm fans. It would be easy to enlarge my front intake. Maybe I'll try that first.

I wish I could "demo" a GTX 960. It's supposedly an upgrade to the GTX 760 and rivals the GTX 770. I basically only play borderlands 2 these days, so maybe I don't need a 970...

Re: To cut or not to cut (giant holes in the bottom of my ca

I think holes in the bottom of the NSK3480 destroys it. It maybe needs some modifications on the inside, like holes for better cable management, and a bigger fan in the front. But nothing that destroys the aesthetics imo. NSK3480, DH77EB and a Ninja.. Damn, that is beautiful. :) I don't think holes...

To cut or not to cut (giant holes in the bottom of my case)?

That is the question! My desktop PC is housed in an Antec NSK3480. I love the case for all kinds of reasons. But it's cramped inside. MOBO: Intel DH77EB mATX GPU: MSI GTX 660ti w/Twin Frozr The PC sits about a meter from my face, on my desktop. I've never seen the PSU fan turn on (Seasonic X650). My...
