Re: Scythe Mugen 4 with high static pressure fans

Thanks for the suggestion lodestar, but I already have the other 4 fan mounts populated. The rear and top each have a Scythe Slipstream 1200rpm and the front middle and bottom now have the old Scythe Gentle Typhoon 1450rpm. The Thermal Radar on the Sabertooth really sucks compared to Fan Xpert 2 on ...

Re: Scythe Mugen 4 with high static pressure fans

That Enermax is a bit too new so it's not available here yet. The reviews of the Swiftech fans weren't so good so I ended up buying a pair of Glidestream 1900rpm PWM (SY1225HB12SH-P) fans since I managed to price match them down to $13 CAD each. I did a Prime95 run with the stock single fan and anot...

Re: Scythe Mugen 4 with high static pressure fans

I'm hitting 63-65C with the Mugen 4 now at full load at 22-24C room temp. In the summer my room can go up to 35C, which is why I want the faster fans for some headroom for the summer temps. Unfortunately as mentioned in that review the SY1225HB12SM-P is not sold alone, and the 1300rpm variant SY1225...

Scythe Mugen 4 with high static pressure fans

So I recently upgraded from a x6 1090T to FX-8350 and my old cooler (CM Hyper 212+ w/2x Gentle Typhoon 1450rpm) is no longer cutting it because it can't keep the CPU temp below 60C under full load (the FX-8350 is o/c'ed to 4.4GHz). I managed to snag the last Mugen 4 at a local shop (ncix.com) and it...

Re: ASUS Z87-Deluxe fake 4-pin headers & other fan control i

Interesting findings about the CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT headers on your Z87 board. I have a 990FX Sabertooth (rev.1) and those 2 headers do NOT control 3-pin non-PWM fans using FanXpert2. I have a Coolermaster Hyper212+ with 2x Scythe Gentle Typhoons (1450rpm, 3-pin) in push+pull config and it does not c...

Re: Antec CP-1000/850 click noise at power on/off

Good point, this is my first high power PSU. I originally wanted a CP-850 but found this open box CP-1000 for 20% cheaper than a new CP-850 so I couldn't resist. I'm going to add another XFX 6870 and cross-fire them, as well as pushing my 1090T past 4GHz so that's why I wanted a higher power PSU. Th...

Re: Antec CP-1000/850 click noise at power on/off

Thanks for the confirmation guys. At least now I know it's normal behavior. SebRad, yes, that's exactly what the sound reminded me of, the mechanical click of a relay. I just haven't heard it on a PSU until now. Like I mentioned, I was using a Corsair HX520 prior to this, and my brother has a Corsai...

Antec CP-1000/850 click noise at power on/off

I just bought an open box Antec CP-1000 PSU and installed it in my system. I notice that there's a somewhat loud single CLICK or TICK sound every time it powers on or powers off. It's pretty much inaudible during regular operation. Is this normal for the CP-850/1000? I went over the SPCR review of t...

Re: Antec P183 vs Fractal Define R2

I can't mount a 120mm fan to the back of that 2-drive cage because the PCI-E power plugs stick into that bay area. The solution, using 2 strips of foam/cardboard or whatever you've got lying around: Image Thanks for the picture! I tried it and it didn't work out quite as well as I'd thought. It onl...

Re: Antec P183 vs Fractal Define R2

so I unplugged all the intake & exhaust fans which only left the 2x Yate Loon D12SL-12 1350rpm fans on the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ CPU heatsink and the stock fan on the XFX 4870. I turned down the YLs to 5v (same setup I used in the SOLO) you should be able to undervolt all of the fans, including t...

Re: P-183 discontinued... replacement P-183 V3?

Well, in my case the P183 is noisier than the SOLO it replaced with the same components inside. I did change the front intake fans from 2x 92mm to 1x 120mm and used a different rear exhaust fan & top exhaust fan. But I also unplugged all 3 of those fans on the P183 to test the noise. The only fans r...

Re: Antec P183 vs Fractal Define R2

So I finally bought the P183 8 months later when it was on sale again. After transplanting all the components from my SOLO to the P183, I find that it's noisier than my SOLO. I thought it was the new exhaust & intake fans I put in the P183 (replaced the tri-cools with Scythe Kaze Jyuni 1200rp...

Re: P-183 discontinued... replacement P-183 V3?

This new v3 looks suspiciously like the unofficial "v2" P183 that I just bought 3 weeks ago. I have the same CPU heatsink cutout on the motherboard tray and the extra SSD/2.5" holes in the 2 drive sleds for the middle HD cage. The only difference between my v2 and this v3 is the replacement of the f...

Antec P183 vs Fractal Define R2

A local store has both these cases on sale right now (Define R2:$100, Antec P183:$130) and I'm thinking of upgrading from my Antec Solo to one of these. If the Solo was 2 inches deeper, I would not be looking at another case right now, but I think I'm at a point where I've outgrown the Solo. Here's ...

I don't think it affects the structural integrity of the bracket much. You don't actually remove a lot of metal from it. If you don't have a Dremel or other rotary cutting tool you could use a plain metal file to grind it down. More time and elbow grease required of course, but same result. I have i...

I've got the Ninja B and a GA-965P-DS3. I was one of the unfortunate ones that had to file away a chunk of the bracket to get it to fit properly. Here's where it interferes on mine: http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/1709/img4615smhv2.th.jpg Those 4 capacitors prevent the bracket from being seated c...

Re: Which Samsung to get ? Looking @ SP2504C

I'm thinking of getting the SP2504C - 93$ CAD at NCIX. I heard its a very quiet HD. Other than the post about that one guy with bad vibrations from it, is there any thing I should know before I go for this drive? In that rythmic vibrations thread, there's way more than just 1 guy with vibration noi...

I agree with aid-2004 that the problem is not just the 2504, but a beat note between it and another device. Can you turn off the other two drives, one at a time or both together, to test this? Can you place a thickish magazine between suspended drives to block the sound from some drives but not oth...

So, I finally got around to suspending all 3 of my HDs (including the vibrating SP2504C) using elastic cord in my HD cage. The Good: it dramatically reduced the seek noise of my 40GB 7200.7 & WD2000JB. The Bad: the annoying pulsing vibration of the SP2504C is still audible. This is really frustratin...

I am also experiencing this "beating" phenomenon with my 3 week old Samsung SP2504C (250GB SATA2 Nidec motor). I thought it was just my imagination that was creating this odd low toned pulse, but I guess not. I went from 4 HDs (Quantum Atlas IV 18GB 7200rpm SCSI, WD 18GB 7200rpm SCSI, WD2000JB 200GB...
