Re: Radeon Pro Duo fan replacement
So, I went ahead and changed the fan. The stock fan on Radeon Pro Duo is Nidec Servo D1225C12B7ZP-70 with non-standard wiring colors - 1. Black - Ground 2. Red - 12V 3. Yellow - RPM sensor 4. Blue - PWM line After changing the fan to Arctic Cooling F12 PWM PST, the card is way way quieter. Unfortuna...

Radeon Pro Duo fan replacement
AMD Radeon Pro Duo has an external water-cooling radiator with 12" stock fan which seems to be running on relatively low RPM while in desktop mode. And at such low RPM, it's annoyingly loud. Did anyone try to replace it with a silent fan and has any experiences to share?

Scdr figured exactly what i'm aiming when building the server(s). @Solid Snake: 1. Data reliability 2 hot-mirrored servers, proper backups and good mainstream desktop components fit our needs. Also, checksums in server software we use would catch random bit mistakes. 2. Component reliability Again 2...

advice needed for building a power efficient linux server
I need to build a power-efficient, silent and quick ;) LAN linux based file/SVN server for the company I work in. My initial thoughts on the subject are: * CPU speed not critically important + server will be idle in non-peak hours - find a CPU / MB combo which can drop to very low power states by li...

I've just evaluated both of those drives for my upcomming HDD upgrade. :) Performance-wise, Samsung is a slightly better performer here, paired with ICH8 SATA controller. I'm still undecided concerning sound, as both are pretty quiet, Samsung just a slightly bit louder in seeks but sound is less cli...

To clarify my interest in Zalman just in case anyone would be interested - the results sound like it has very good cooling/noise performance per gram of weght (ofcourse, "noise" with nexus-modding in mind) :) I'd prefer to avoid mounting almost 2x max. AMD recommended heatsink weight (ie. Ultra-120)...

The Zalman appears to be the best performer... until you realize that its stock fan produces much more airflow and noise at the various voltage levels than the reference fan does. At full speed, this difference is 37 dBA@1m vs. 22 dBA@1m. The stock fan doesn't reach 22 dBA@1m until it is run at 5V....

Nah, the idle whine sounds sooo awful.. Better to get rid of it, I'm even suspecting of a faulty sample. (although it worked for about 5-6 months in my box, with motor turned off for most of the time in power save mode)Mats wrote:Have you tried low RPM mode?

Hitachi 7K250 - VERY annoying idle whine
As a data point, my HDS722525VLSA80 sample has a VERY annoying / loud idle whine, and I'm in the process of replacing it with Samsung SP2504C.
