oops, saw it too late and didn't catch it fast enough, but I would have suggested going with a video card that utilizes GDDR3 instead of GDDR2. It's a better memory interface. But that card should still suit you. If you aren't satisfied, on the next vidcard purchase make sure to stick with GDDR3 As ...

Well actually most of the 479 pin ones, (1.7ghz and up) afaik many sellers include the ASUS bracket to adapt. I was actually wondering if anyone knows FOR SURE if it'll work. I'd rather go with a 533mhz like the 740, however if it won't fit with the ASUS bracket, I'll just end up going with the 400m...

Dell/Intel/Laptop gods, step in:
I'm sick of the loud, hot, unefficient P4 2.4ghz in the dell my dad handed me down.. Does anyone know if a pentium M like the 533mhz fsb (the inspiron I believe takes 400fsb or 533fsb) will swap in? Also what about HSF? the one that's in there is loud and inefficient, and also suffers from a design ...

Testing (read: playing) with some old fans
I had several fans, of many different sizes laying around in a box. These fans were all put in the box, because they were originally deemed 'unworthy' of use due to noise. I never really tested any of them and I got bored so I decided to try them out at twelve and seven volts. Here are my results: F...

You are correct about windows. but c: i don't use just as a windows partition. I install windows, office, any integrated utilities i/e firewalls, virus scanners, etc onto this drive. On the current computer i'm typing on, a 40 gig drive, has 10 gigs allocated to c: (granted this is excessive) I coul...

btw, the reason i separate windows from programs is because i install windows' or microsoft' related files to that drive. this way, ms integrated files or system files that will be integral to the system will be easily reformatted alone without having to reinstall programs in case of a major system ...

Actually your scheme isn't that bad, and is close to mine which is the best i know of. My partition scheme: let's say 80 gigabyte drive: 12 gigs to c:\ name partition ms or windows 28 gigs to d:\ name partition programs or program files now for e:\ you want to allocate everything else, minus double ...

Elixer: I don't know about 'drowning out noise' with more noise... but whatever sinks your sub. I will subscribe to this though. When I was living in my previous home (a 2 story home) I remember being able to 'feel' the fan of the furnace come on when I was upstairs. I could feel it almost like what...

actually, i just now decided to check it again; i tried to hear it while on my laptop typing, but the laptop was too loud. so i moved away from the laptop and put my ear directly next to the front of the case, with the side panel open and the front bezel down. i could hear it by the single air ioniz...

i don't mind my coolermaster much at all. it's not really loud. it isn't SILENT, like my seasonics, but it's very quiet. i can't hear it running in my htpc over the projector's built in fan, or over any kind of music or a movie playing. however when the room is silent and everything is off and i'm s...

Silverstone Temjin TJ-07
Was looking over this case at Silverstone's website (I have the TJ-06) and decided to shoot them an email. [I am a serious PC builder who is also interested in the highest quality PC Components when I am choosing them to build a computer. When I look to build a computer that is quiet, high quality, ...

oh and unless you MUST have the stock HSF, you can get 60 dollars off a opteron 165 @ monarch (details in hot deals section of hardocp forums) OEM, 337-60.. 277. not bad for an opteron. of course the x2 3800 may be a better overall value with the stock hsf.. this one's a toss up. but call me funny i...

If you read the memory forums at hardocp I linked, you'll see that people have had REALLY great luck with the ram I suggested. The higher cas latency is because it's meant to be run at higher speeds. You can easily achieve much lower latency at the expense of memory bandwidth. I'm not exactly a true...

Technically the copper version "absorbs" the heat better. Copper isn't as good at "dissipation" of heat as aluminum. As a passive cooling device, the inclusion of aluminum is generally a vital contribution to good heat dissipation. Look at the Scythe Ninja, and the top thermalright passive coolers (...
