Don't really want a Gxx board. And I'm not too familiar with Biostar (although admittedly they are cheaper). So I went ahead with the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R. A bit steep, but I had to send the order and couldn't make up my mind so I picked what I considered the safest bet. I hope it will serve well a...

P3x/P4x Mobo for a Wolfdale (E8x00)?

Heya! I'm about to build another Core 2 Duo-based system (E8400 or E8500 w/ XIGMATEK HDT-S1283). Just need to decide on the motherboard and some 2x2GB DDR2 kit (not sure whether PC6400 or PC8500 yet). Looking for a board that's good value and power efficient while not compromising stability. There w...

A "Jim M0rrison" over at XS ( http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=209830 ) is confirming that the "PCS" design has been changed. In fact, he goes as far as to say that the new revision is not only of cheapo quality but actually ship downclocked to the reference clocks of 750, even t...

FWIW: http://en.expreview.com/2008/08/23/powercolor-hd-4870-pcs-stability-issues-check.html Isn't that the 512MB version though? As I said before, I know the 512MB was laden with issues, but I haven't been able to find anything in regards to the 1024MB other than the Newegg user review above. And o...

So, should I go with the Powercolor 4870 1GB PCS+ or just a reference one? They're all the same price. Need to know as I should decide today.

If the PCS+ is more compatible with the Accelero S1 then that's great. But is it really and what exactly were the problems with this card?

I will definitely get a Razer mouse. According to here even the Logitech G9 exhibits this squealing "issue". Now the question's only: Which Razer? LED:s are bad, mmm-kay? I find these unnecessary mouse LED:s to be visual noise , hence I simply can't stand them. So there should be some sort of off sw...

It's the normal version. The PCS+ would be better because it already has heatinks on the memories and VRM modules but it is said to have some problems. I see. What specifically are these problems you speak of? As I said, I read some stuff earlier (months ago) about the Powercolor 4870 512MB PCS+ ha...

I don't know about other people but the Ramsinks that came with the Accelero stayed on just fine. No problem there. And the memory temperature stays at ~63ºC during Furmark. Those are fine. The VRM heatsink though, is not fine. You can either have it tilted sideways and use both screws or just use...

I would like to know this too. Is 4870 + Accelero S1 stable without any additional mods? Or are the PWM:s overheating? Having an unstable video card - and ultimately computer - is not a very tempting solution.

I don't get it, still no PSU?

Anyway that fan is 1600 RPM and is going to be louder than necessary. I would've settled for a 1200 RPM fan. You could probably do the 7V mod on it though (or use a fan controller) so that's fine I guess.

The MLC line called RealSSD C200 series will feature a slower 100 MB/s write speed, but the same fast 250 MB/s reads. http://www.micron.com/about/news/pressrelease.a...

Good evening! My new computer will be used for a lot of gaming and hence I'd like a good gaming mouse. But that's not enough, it must be silent! I'm not talking about the clicking noise here. The Core V1 line will be continued as a slightly cheaper alternative, with the Core V2 line being more of OCZ's premium line. The plan is to make Core more affordable and Core2 just a little above it. SSD tech is moving at a furious pace, much faster than i have seen anything move for quite a while....

Hi there! I intend to build a combined file server/NAS (Network Attached Storage)/media server/BitTorrent seedbox placed on a Gbit LAN with a 100/100 Mbit fiber connection. I get the impression in [ this thread ] that 780G/790GX coupled with a Phenom (for some arcane reason) is the way to go (in regard to picture quality). If you want your 8 channel LPCM and/or bitstreaming capability, it's probably G45 though. Either way should work for 720p, 1080i and 1080p material.
