Re: Fractal Design Node 304 HDD suspension

A good 140mm fan could generally provide enough airflow alone for this build. You are probably right, but I find multiple fans running at 5v easier on the ears than one running at a higher voltage. Not sure if it’s actually quieter or just a gentler tone. I would also worry just running one fan in ...

Re: Antec P180 to Raven RV03 impressions

I am in a similar situation to you, fyleow. I have been using a solo for years and want to go matx so have been looking at a TJ08E. I am thinking that it would be good to lose the front fan altogether and just fit a 120mm exhaust fan. My components are a little lower rent though.

Re: SilverStone Temjin TJ08-E: MicroATX Evolved

Hi. I have started buying components for a new build to replace my Antec Solo rig that I have been running for ages. I bought a Define Mini but it's to similar in size and design to my old solo to get me excited about moving to matx so I have been looking at getting a TJ08-E. I have read many review...

ahh, ok, so bigger cases are not significantly "better" for cooling, just "easier" because of the extra space to work with.

makes sense, thanks.

big or small case for better cooling?

Hi I think it is generally assumed/known that larger cases are better for cooling. Is it possible that someone could explain why? Simply, but scientifically. The more I think about it, the more confused I get. The way I understand it is, that in a larger case there is more air and the components are...

I have an 40 gig Seagate drive that worked great for about a year. I then installed it upside down and after a couple of weeks it would not spin up when I started my pc. Tapping the drive with my finger during startup worked most of the time. It's now installed the right way up and works fine again....

Big thanks for the info and pics dfrost. I'm supprised that the new gpu temps are only 3C lower. Looking at the pics, I would have thought it would have made a much bigger difference. Gonna try it anyway as just a small drop in temp would help my currently melting card. Hope you realise I will hold ...

ok to bend heatpipes on vm-102?

I am thinking about bending the heatpipes on my 102 so the top copper fins will be rotated 90 degrees. This wil put the copper fins infront of my cpu heatsink instead of underneath it. 2 reasons for this 1 the fins would be infront of the rear exaust fan for better cooling. 2 at the moment warm air ...

Using case as heatsink?

The temp of my hard drives are much increased when suspended compared to when they are fitted securely in my case. So it seams that my alu case works as an effect heat sink. I was wondering if anyone had used the case as a heatsink for any other components. Maybe running heatpipes from the gfx card ...

Do these filters not restrict more air flow than the standard off the shelf pc fan filters?

I'm currently searching for some sort of filter material in uk diy stores and finding nothing.

vm-102 + 6800gt (a bit warm)

Just fitted an Aerocool VM-102 on my 6800gt agp. The mounting bracket screws were to fat for the holes in my card so I had to drill the holes to make them bigger (which was a little scary). I guess I could have bought some thinner screws though. When I first booted my pc the card temp was huge and r...

Do 120mm fans overload motherboard header?

Hi. I remember reading a while ago (on the abit forums i think) that it is not advised to connect a 120mm fan to the motherboard fan header. Something to do with overloading the connections and eventually making the header stop working. Does anyone know if this is a bit of a myth? I have always powe...

I tried that with my last card. 6600gt. Removed the fan and lid thing that screws on to the heatsink and made a little bracket to fix a 120mm fan in the pci slot below the card. Even with the 120mm fan on 12v blowing a gale the temps were very high. Didn't really understand why. I think that a small...

Hi. I use a Vantec Iceberq 5 on my agp 6600gt. Running at 5 volts it's very quiet and still cools better that the stock heatsink/fan. The vantec heatsink sticks out wider than the card, but I don't see why that would be a problem. It fits nice and securely so it's all good. Also, it's cheap comes wi...
