Re: Akasa Apache 120x25mm - used/tested for about 5 minutes

I don't use PWM (I use a laptop). The fans are for external cooling and air filtering. So, for my purposes, I need a fan that can be undervolted using a external fan controller. I did figure that the akasa clicked because of the external fan controller, and that it would not click when used as it's ...

Re: Akasa Apache 120x25mm - used/tested for about 5 minutes

When plugged into an external AC->DC 2A adapter, at 12v, sitting on an open table, the Akasa was louder than the NF-P12. Not saying it was ' loud ', simply loud er than my current fan. (I was looking for quieter). To what degree? ... maybe if the akasa was about 3 feet away, and the noctua was next ...

Akasa Apache 120x25mm - used/tested for about 5 minutes

I bought a new akasa apche to test it's sound level. I tested it for about 5 minutes... not silent, louder than the Noctua NF-P12 (though more cfm and pressure too). Louder than my existing fan = my decision to sell the apache. Sidewinder is the only source in the US, and they sell it for exactly $1...

Re: fan controller start-up voltage limits?

haha that's cool  I'm looking for continuously variable also, to dial the exact rpm that is quiet enough, and get the most cfm. If 11.8v is as quiet as needed, I wouldn't want to need to go all the way down to 10v. this one is the cheapest so far that didn't specify startup voltage http://www.c...

fan controller start-up voltage limits?

I'm searching for a cheap basic manual voltage controller, for two 120mm 5.5volt startup 1.8watt fans. So far the Zalman Fanmate 2 and the Lamptron FC1 both are incompatible, due to having a start-up limit of 5v max. Every other controller I've looked at doesn't specify a spec for the startup voltag...

Re: fans with above-average Pressure at Lowest dBA

They definitely looks very close. I kept reading that on SPCR pages too. Mostly saying that the Nexus has much quieter at high speeds, and only just quieter at lower speeds. Due to the Nexus having sleeve bearings I can't go horizontal or use it with heat... so I might be going with the Noctua P12. ...

Re: fans with above-average Pressure at Lowest dBA

I found a few SPCR measurements, and found the sound sample page for the Nexus... and that makes me realize more than yes, the only way to really know what a fan sounds like in person, is to hear it in person. If I'm able I might test a few fans, though I'd rather try to find a keeper and buy only t...

Re: fans with above-average Pressure at Lowest dBA

I checked again and can't find any static pressure numbers for the Gentle Typhoon. So far, I've checked the xbit lists for all the 120mm and 140mm fans. After comparing numbers I also noticed that they tend to give a CFM result of half what the manufacturer gives, at 12v. I don't think manufacturers...

Re: list: fans with Highest Pressure at Lowest dBA

My system cools acceptably with a single 50+ CFM fan. The CFM was no doubt measured in free air without any static pressure. That is usually how most cfm numbers are measured. One inch is a pretty thick filter. Do you really need it? Take a look at the modright filterright filters. In any event, tr...

Re: list: fans with Highest Pressure at Lowest dBA

The static pressure is to pull air through a 1" thick filter. My system cools acceptably with a single 50+ CFM fan. The fan size doesn't matter, I'll modify the hole. I just want the pressure, CFM, and quiet. I used to use a SilenX 120mmx38mm, and it had enough pressure. I also had some random 60CFM...

fan static pressure, back pressure, etc -measured & defined?

The terms like static pressure, back pressure, mm H2O, Pa. Is there a good webpage to explain these... and how they relate to real world experience. I gather that higher numbers mean more, but what do they mean. ie, can a number be a benchmark, like being able to pull air through a x" thick filter? ...

120x38mm fans with high Pressure at Lowest dBA

edited: this thread originally didn't specify 38mm thickness. I've received the Nexus 120mm D12SL-12, and the Noctua NF-P12... and both are 25mm thick. The thickness of a 38mm should provide more static pressure. So the thread is now.... what are the 120x38mm fans that have the highest pressure and ...

will plastic transfer a current from the mobo bottom metal?

I am wondering... would thin pieces of plastic sheets be able to conduct current if it is touching the metal soldering/pins on the underside of the mobo? Any idears? I have this set-up and i'm creating an air-chute on the bottom of the mobo, so the drives will be cooled http://helpusall.com/tmp/temp...

thermal transfer of Arctic Silver Compound vs. AS Adhesive

The CNPS9500 have large air gaps between the heatpipes and where they contact with the heatblock. To improve heat transfer, I filled in the air spaces with Arctic Silver 5 I'm now wondering if AS Adehsive would transfer heat better than the non-adhesive compound. from AS's site, they say AS5 thermal...

The db rating of every fan goes up when the cfm is increased......more airflow equals more noise. Where the fans differ is the sounds of the fan motor. I'm modding a PSU (Fortron FX700) and thinking about adding these copper ramsinks to the aluminum heatsinks that are inside the PSU.
