Re: Luma Router / mesh network Access Points
Ubiquity Access Points to me are best, its enterprise grade hardware at very accessible price points, very easy to setup software. agreed. ubiquiti's mesh is the only one ive seen that actually handles wifi handoffs without a hitch. I install about 2- 3 a week. (just make sure you have updated firm...

Thanks for the link and info. Looks like it would be a waste without PCIe 3.0 4x. personally i found it to be a waste even with 3.0 4x. these are meant to be enterprise drives, with tons users/apps accessing the drive at the same time. desktop users dont do enough simultaneous reads/writes for NVMe...

@ OP:
my bet is still on lack of ups. the nas may have been lucky, had a better PSU or just on a more robust circuit....who knows.
play it safe. Its good insurance to have a ups for every "important" PC.

I found more than a few similar complaints about the noise of the fan ...

YMMV/
had that silverstone SFX PSU, sent it back due to its fan "rumbling" as it was constantly turning on and off every minute or 2.

FWIW i have a low profile coolermaster that SPCR said was crap. I added 4 strips of foam between the fan and cooler, to eliminate fan vibration, and its does just as good as my shuriken @ $10 less.

hdmi is good to ~50 feet. then you need a repeater/amp. there are also hdmi over cat 5 kits, for much longer distances.quest_for_silence wrote: BTW, xan, how would you hook up the LCD monitor?

Putting the PC in the next room isn't possible due to the cable that connects the amplifier to the PC. of course it is possible. I install/service whole home AV and PC servers in central EQ closets locations all the time. you could either get a longer "cable", or put the amp in the next room as wel...

If changing the gas in the drive is a big deal, why not have a vacuum? Surely that would give better benefit? It's not like a hard disk could not be built to withstand the forces of a partial vacuum anyway. floating heads actually require something to float on. the cushion of gas is there to keep t...

usb = 5v -so any fan(s) running off that will need to be able to start consistently at that low voltage.

if you have empty 5.25 bays, you could duct the PSU intake, from front of case, so that it is isolated from other internal heat sources.
