Re: Alternative to having a desk in the living room?

This isn't cheap - but have you considered getting an ultrabook? If what you require is a keyboard, mouse and so on combination, a 2010 model macbook air is a decent solution. The trackpad is big, it weighs about as much as a mechanical keyboard and has a similar footprint, and the operation is quie...

Re: homemade case - what's the best vertical fan?

Very cool, thank you. I'm not building the case this way primarily for performance; a big part is looks. By having completely vertical airflow, the system can be completely enclosed. That makes it ideal when the situation is such that the case has a prominent location in the room, and you don't need...

homemade case - what's the best vertical fan?

So, I'm quite inspired by the silverstone fortress 2, but I'm building a custom system for my desktop. The case will be a part of the desk, and mount in a very particular way, where it'll be possible to have essentially no bottom on the case (apart from dust filters). I'm going to be buildinging it ...

Re: Thermaltake Level 10

"they broke the design by putting it all back in one box" This. The level 10 was, imo, super cool. Big, clunky, but it also showcased modern computerdesign by having harddrive, motherboard and so on take up visual space on the outside without the ugly of circuit boards. So yeah. Level 10, modded for...

ces: Thankyou, that's exactly what I was looking for! And yes, obviously I could run some experiments of my own, and CA_Steves point means I couldn't rely on exact voltage figures anyway... Eh, I think I may have articulated the "real" problem poorly in my first post...which is getting reliable unde...

A fanmate or other thingie to get 6-7volts

Hey guys. I'm the soon-to-be proud owner of 4 nexus black-and-white fans. I'm not rediculously bad with electronics...I could probably wire-in a resistor to eat up 5 volts on the fans themselves...but I would like to avoid it by getting a fanmate, or possibly, a static resistor solution with as litt...

Sadly, newegg doesn't offer international shipping, but since I'm in euroland and the dollar / euro exchange rate is heywire, I can get one of these thru ebay and it'll still beat the local prices of the alternatives... Thanks MichaelT

I'd forgotten there was a pci expansion port! The that, this is probably the best choice...now, I'll need to design the case.

And yes, buying something second hand would be an option, except where exactly do you find something silent with a 1gigabit ethernet port and sata connectors second hand? =P

cheapest possible silent pc / nas

I don't have a lot of money to spend on this project, but I'm in need to a silent pc that can control my network accessed storage and bittorrent client. It may also serve as server of some silly small-scale programs, or do other lightweight work. My requirement is that it run some version of windows...

Fixed the image

Ok, thanks for the input guys! I've hosted the image at an alternate location, should be fixed in the original post now. Also, yes, the Zalman 9500 does come with a fanmate. It's also one of them fancy ones with a blue LED, which makes me think that Zalman might've done some sort of voodoo with the ...

Am I an idiot? (pwm problem)

http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/5498/imageupload87715679fx2.th.jpg This is my Antec P180B. I fitted a couple of Artic Cooling Artic Fan PWM fans around the CPU - they're the two exhaust fans around the zalman 9500 CPU cooler. I was thinking that they would be able to smartly adjust their speed bas...

I decided on going with the Zalman 9500 AM2 due to it's lower weight as well as the VF900-Cu since the Artic Cooling appeared to be harder to uninstall. Quiet AM2 ATI system

Hi guys, this one should be easy: I have a Antec P180B case, Seasonic S12 430 watt PSU, mounting an ASUS M2N-SLI Delux mobo with an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ and an Asus Ati Radeon X1900XTX.
