That makes me feel better about needing the CPU fan (running at 2000rpm) for my Sempron 3300+ idling at 32 deg C and full loading at 38 deg C at 27 deg C ambient. I guess I can slow it down some more!!! I now lowered the the CPU voltage to 1.0v at 1.8GHz, left it running prime95 overnight and this ...

Excellent! what kind of temps do you get at idle and load? I wanted to answer you accurately so I fired up prime95 and checked back a few hours later... temp was over 60C so I quickly stopped it and plugged back the CPU fan with a fanmate at lowest speed. At idle it stayed in the lower 30s S...

Thanks Neil My system draws around 40w at idle and 65-70 at max. This is with my 5 years old seasonic SS-300FS I was hoping to improve these values with a higher efficiency PSU. I would really like to avoid RMA unless I can deal with Seasonic directly. The shop where I bought it from seems to be run...

Seasonic S12-380 HB
I finally received my seasonic S12 380W power supply only to discover that it is very noisy! It seems like the fan is stuck at full speed all the time. Has anybody experienced this before? Any quick way to fix it? Or should I just need to send it back to seasonic for an RMA? I'd hate this as it woul...

Here's an update I finally got most of the parts and managed to boot up and install XP on the box. The CPU seems happy to run at 0.8v and the total power draw is 44 watt. Unfortunately the post office seems to have misplaced the parcel with my seasonic s12 power supply and the samsung drive. I'm goi...

Sorry to bring up an old post but I was wondering if someone figured out a way to dinamically change the CPU speed and voltage based on CPU load with the P5B Deluxe. I'm surprised nodoby has created an application that can change multiplier, voltage and FSB speed all at the same time and automatical...

Peroni, Good point, but that affects the 1.01g boards, iirc. The 1.02g and up are good to 2.45v, I believe. Yes but the only one being sold is the 1.01g, at least here in europe. I have asked many online shops and they all had the old revision. The fantomatic 1.02g might not exist, only some review...

Do not buy that memory. The Asus P5B-E can only give 2.1v max to the memory. If you do not overclock even PC4200 memory would be enough. If you do overclock PC5300 (333MHz x2= 667MHz) will be already giving you a speed of around 3GHz (333x9) You'll be surprised to see that most of the cheapest PC530...

One last thing, I need help in choosing a decent enclosure/psu combo. I realized I need a case with a lockable front door, to prevent my kids from turning off the server. So far the only case below 100 euro is the antec sonataII, I don't really like the PSU that comes with it though. Is there any ot...

Achtung! There have been issues where AM2 Semprons without CnQ (ie 2800/3000) seem to have "disabled" the undervolting options in BIOS of the Asrock NF4G/NF6G DVI; so I would get the 3200 just to be safe. Now I'm getting confused  The sempron I'm going to buy is a manila (if that helps) and a...

This will have to replace my current tualatin server that draws around 85watt at all time. I sold it for a good price and now looking to buy something that can use around 30-35watt for approx the same money. Yes I could probably recycle an old system however I dont have one! Even if I found one with...

...the Asrock Alive NF6G-DVI... Sorry, I forgot about that board. Thanks go to jaganath for catching that. Now you can use any AM2 Sempron you want. Get the cheapest one you can. You mean I can get the 3000+ as well? I thought you said that the 3200+ was the cheapest that allowed undervoltin...

Thanks a lot for your advice guys! You've convinced me to go the AM2 route even if I have this 1GB or DDR1 sitting in my cabinet here, guess it will end up on ebay So anyway, the CPU will be a sempron 3200+ manila (thanks jackylman) The HD will be a 400GB samsung, I hear these are quiet and cool (do...

Thanks, speed is not a concern at all. Yes the pc will be used as a home server for email, sharing music and pics etc. I don't need to overclock but instead underlock and undervolt. Anything running over 1GHz will be plenty fast for what I need to do. An E6300 is way to expensive, can that mobo unde...

Low wattage system based on intel chipset
Hello, I would like to build a cheap, quiet system ideally based on an intel chipset This system will be left on 24x7 so it needs to use as little energy as possible. I already have 1GB of DDR ram that I would like to use, the big question is: Are there any intel based motherboards out there that su...
