Re: Help: HTPC built for Bu-ray and RPG games.
It's been a while since my last post, but i was sort of in a similar situation when building my friends system. Bluray and later on gaming was also on the list. Its been a good while since that was built but thermal requirements have not really changed for the worse in the past few years. Concerning...

like the lian li's a lot. especially the b10 looks nice. however it also has the problem of the door that i have to avoid. but the a71 is also available w/o a door it seems. that may be a good option. any ideas how quiet the included fans are? since there's not so many 140mm aftermarket models to ch...

I'll have to look into MediaPortal. In your experience, is it stable, so one does not have to hunt troubles and install funky updates every couple weeks? I am fine doing that myself but rather not on someone elses box. should be as easy as it can be... In your opinion, what's the biggest advantages ...

I would agree completely. Personally I use my iPhone for my Mythtv box as well. Windows Sideshow would allow precisely that as well but there seem to be no two way capable remotes available so far. Othe than the Ricavision that's not available none I think. The squeezebox is a fine piece and would d...

Bluray capable HTPC build
Hello all. I've been following SPCR for quite a while and was able to make some good purchases based on the forums' posts and reviews. Personally I run a Linux based HTPC with mythtv based on MoDT components. A friend of mine asked me to put together a HTPC for him with the following characteristics...

mythbuntu is definitely worth a try. I've been running Gentoo on my box, but I started well before mythbuntu was available and ubuntu just getting mature. What I can tell you though, Nvidia traditionally has the best video drivers for linux that support even awkward resolutions. Don't know about cur...

performance wise, as stated before the more disks you add the better the performance. theoretically. but - the more disks you have in the array, the more likely one will fail at some point. thus, using fewer disks may make sense too. on top, cooling and noise are easier to cope with as well if you u...

Re: Asus
The machine is now running Windows MCE flawlessly (well it was flawless until I forgot that later Nvidia drivers don't support the MCE extensions and ended up watching all my DVDs in negative colours  ) This seems odd. About a year and a half ago I tested WIN MCE sucessfully with a NVidia Ge...

Re: Speedster stability
I can also mention that swapping the cpu coolers retention bracket on the Speedster-A4R to a standard 478p one is very easy and works very well. I now cool my Merom processor (T7200) passively with a Zalman 7000 Cu and it never goes above 65C with dual instances of cpuburn running. As for stability...

I'd go and check the mini pc's from digitallogic. they have a host of different fanless machines for industrial applications and even a media center. some run on lv pentiums. if you are prepared to spend some money, they even make you custom boards to exactly fit your needs. http://www.digitallogic....

In the test they used a 6600GT. I think some recent card like 7600GS/GT will work, but that's an hypothese. I guess that any PEG (PCIe Graphics Card) would work. However, lots of mainboards only support 16x graphics cards in that slot. 4x or 8x RAID controller often do not work. I would like to use...

I have found something: GlobalAmerica lists a Yonah board and advertises the PCIe slot as being 4x compatible on the website. http://www.globalamericaninc.com/new_spec/spec2.php?id=664 However in the manual it only says 16x and 1x mode. I am waiting for a reply still. http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-b...

yeah, I was also looking at the Speedster. Might be an option if I cannot find a mini itx board. One with a 8x or 16x slot that accepts raid controllers would also be fine. I was just planning on a mini cube server with 4 2.5" sas disks. So in case you remember one with a 8x or 16x slot, that would ...

mini-itx with PCI Express
Anyone know of a mini itx board that has a PCIe slot and supports anything else (speak raid controller 4x or 8x card) besides video cards in that slot?
The MSI 945GT Speedster would support 4x PCIe cards, but i'd love to find something in the mini-itx ballpark...

yes i do mean the MSI 945GT Speedster-A4R. Did you run it with a core2duo or a core duo? I read in a German forum that most people running it with a core2duo have problems. Memory also seemed to be a source of trouble. I am mostly interested in the msi for it's 4x PCIe slot (RAID controller). Otherw...

CPU cooler on MSI 945GM Speedster
Has anyone actually installed an aftermarket Cooler on the MSI 945GM Speedster CoreDuo mainboard? I understand that it uses a custom retention module but the holes in the board are standard. I'd love to be able to mount a Scythe Ninja cooler even if that means loosing the PCIe graphics slot. Current...

i also had a sun netra running for a while as my home server. a very nice machine indeed. even though it does not consume a lot of power, they are very noisy. and the scsi drives used cost a fortune. this is a bit better with the newer suns that also use ide or sata drives. as you can see in my earl...
