Re: SPCR's Holiday ATX Gaming Build Guide

theoryzero, the Strix will never turn on its fans, as long as you don't start demanding games. But the free flow of air around it, and the way the card is placed are critical to achieve this. If you look at the various reviews on the net, you notice they are all (well, most) carried out on open ben...

Re: SPCR's Holiday ATX Gaming Build Guide

Interesting read. I started a very similar build in summer of 2013 and only now consider it complete with the addition of my STRIX GTX 970. Many similarities based on my silent PC research last summer: Fractal Design Define R4 Asus Z87 Maximus VI Hero 4770K processor with Noctua NH-U14S cooler Kingw...

I'm thinking about getting the Firepro V4800 for it's 10-bit color ability to use with Photoshop CS5. However that little fan on a single height card has me worried. How noisy is it?

Quiet is subjective. I just got a EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 model yesterday to replace my ailing 7900GTX. The fan at stock speed is certainly the most audible part of my system, which can be heard over my non-silenced hard drives which make a whooshing sound when running. I used the EVGA Precision Util...

Just a head's up, I got the P180B and it did not have that duct you mention. Although the reviews indicate it was worthless and even less effective than not using the VGA duct altogether. I got a 7900GTX because that seemed more flexible in terms of cooling, but still dishes out decent performance. ...

Seasonic S12-430 Whine?

Ok, I honestly tried to do a search on this first! I got a new S12-430 a few weeks ago for my new system. I've been trying to work out the cable management and fan placement details while I wait for Conroe to arrive. I noticed last night that I could hear a distinct whine coming from my case. Throug...

Have any reviews been posted? I saw a preview on Madshrimps.be, but that is about it. I may take the plunge to silence my 7900 GTX, but I'm curious to read some reviews first. I'd also like to see some details on installation too. Wonder if it'd be possible to have the fins on the heatsink rotated 9...

cmthomson: Yes, I was planning to use the NMT-3 on the CPU fan and expect it to just use the ambient temp. I figured it would keep the speed low and I don't have to go find one of those Zalman 7v resistor cables. I now have 5 of them from the sale, so I do have some just laying around. When using th...

Using Nexus Fan to cool Scythe Ninja..hook up power to Mobo?

Ok, the motherboard I'm planning to get for my new system (Asus P5W DH) has a 4-pin CPU fan power plug on the board. I was planning to get a Scythe Ninja and use a Nexus fan to cool it. I know the Nexus has the standard small 3-pin plug and 4-pin molex plug on it. Can I just connect the 3-pin plug t...
