Antec Solo Front Panel I/O Mod

Here's a not so fun project. I wanted USB 3 Type A and Type C front I/O because my newer motherboards have the headers. Instead of just getting one the many different drive tray hubs that are easily installed, I just bought some of the cables to attach to the headers and did some micro-surgery/plast...

Re: F4 HD204UI Vibration variance?

I bought 4 of these a couple of months ago. They do vibrate. I thought a 5400 rpm drive would be more quiet but the vibration makes it noisier than past Samsung Hard Drives I've owned (more than 20 over the years). I started buying Samsungs years ago because of how quiet they were. These don't live ...

Re: Mugen 3

I just installed a Mugen 3 in an Antec P183 case on an I7 920 (Gigabyte GA-X58-UD5 MB). I had to get rid of the noisy stock Intel fan. I've put up with it way too long. I'm using the Mugen 3 with its stock fan and it's very quiet. From a foot away you can't hear it. My Samsung HDs and (now) top moun...

Removing top grill from an Antec P183 (No cutting)

Here's a way to remove the top grill from a P183. First remove the top fan. Then remove the 4 screws and cylindrical black plastic washers (used to hold the gill in place tightly). Then I used a flat putty blade to slowly pry the plastic top up (very slowly). Note: there are plastic tabs on the top ...

Long and highly informative post on the F3! :) All this leaves me very curious : How are your F3 500s/HD502HJs doing after months of use? (Apart from Geobrick's fail.) Is (low) vibration and noise still outstanding for a 7,200 rpm drive? Satisfied? The failure I had could have been caused by the In...

One of the major (IMO) differences between the P180 and P182 is the ability to route cables behind the motherboard in the P182. At least according to Devon's postscript about the v1.1 in the P180 review, it sounds like the P180 v1.1 may still lack that. Other than that, I do believe the v1.1 is ess...

It arrived today

The box says it's a P180 v1.1 (which came out in 2006 according to the P180 review on this site). I opened it and it is, in fact, a P180. It's very similar to my P183 with the obvious differences. I looked closely at the P182SE review here on spcr and besides the stainless steel and snake light feat...

Newegg's photos simply don't include the "spoiler". If you look closely at the Newegg photo, you can see the grooves that it would go into. That's the only difference there, at least from the photos in the listing itself. (The P182 is the same, where their pictures don't include the "spoiler".) I c...

The newegg photos show that the top fan is different than what's shown in the old silent PC review article. The SPCR article shows that the top fan sticks up from the top of the case. The newegg photo shows the flat top (like on the P183). I guess I'll find out Friday. I actualy ordered one yesterda...

The P180 is Back?

I just got a newegg email with the P180 case for a pretty good price. I thought that case was long gone and was replaced by the P182 and now the P183 (which I own). Did Antec bring back a new version of the P180? If they did, did they fix any of the known issues? I like the front firewire connector ...

Re: One of Four failed

How have your other drives been? I was about to buy an F3, and Newegg, Amazon, and ZipZoomFly all de-listed them or changed the status to out of stock this week. Is it high demand, or something else? I have not had a failure yet. It's possible the first failure was caused by the Intel RAID driver (...

Intriguing, so the (comparatively limited) controller built into recent Intel chipsets can fix this in concert with recent drivers? Are those drivers also available for GNU/Linux or only Windows? I wonder if one can get away with using the appropriate dvr + softRAID, such as MDADM etc? If you're no...

Re: CCTL

While poking around the internet, I discovered that Samsung doesn't have a utility to enable CCTL (similar to Seagate's ERC and WD's TLER) on the F1 series. Either the drive has it, because you paid up to get the "RAID class" model, or it doesn't. This makes me wonder if these new F3 drives will te...

One of Four failed

1 out of the 4 of my Samsung F3 HD502HJ's drives has failed within 3 weeks. I bought 4 Samsung F3 HD502HJ's in September in preparation for a new build. In Nov I installed them in a RAID 10 (with the built in MB ICH10R controller) for data (RAID was not for the OS - Win7). After about 3 weeks, I had...

NEO HE 500 issue

I have had some success with the NEO HE line in two PCs but now I have a problem. I bought a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 MB with a Q6600 processor, 2 GB of corsair memory and a Gigabyte 8600 GTS video card. There are three hard drives and one LG DVD drive. I originally built up the system with a 430 Watt An...

Gyration Mouse whine

I have a Gyration mouse that, after 6 months, started making a loud high pitched whine. I could hear it from across a very large room. That 2nd hard drive might be whats ~just~ enough to put you over. .
It's possible. I can't say for sure. If you'd like, I can try to boot it with just the one HD and nothing else.

NEO HE 500 Works Fine

I'm using the Neo HE 500 with an ASUS A8N-SLI-Premium and it's been fine for 2 weeks now.

I risked buying it because:

1) I have a NEO HE430 working fine with an Intel P965LT since Sep 06 (see earlier posts)

and

2) it was only $40 after a $45 rebate at Fry's.

Re: Low power system not booting with high efficiency PSU?!

As mentioned above, higher efficiency PSUs generally tend to need higher minimum power on the 12V line in order to simply run. Typically, we're talking about 1A or greater. Older, less efficient PSUs have much lower minumum current needs, under 0.5A and often ZERO. I did some research and testing o...

It's $9.99 at Fry's after a rebate this week. I bought one for a back-up.

Do the seasonics ever get discounted like this? I heard that Antec sometimes does but not that I've seen.
