Two part fan mounting/shroud idea

I was thinking here, which I know I shouldn't do, but here goes anyway. I was thinking about fan mounting, rubber grommets and such, and how those don't work in all places. Such as mounting on a tower heat sink, or when space is truly limited (PSUs and somesuch). Then I figured fan housings could be...

It's quite tight

I have a Modu82+ (625W) I bought a few weeks ago on my desk which I haven't installed yet. Peering through the vents I would say that you just might be able to squeeze the grommets in, but that would likely cause the fan to rest on some of the components (not heatsinks though, but the thing wrapped ...

Ahh, performance

I can't but help myself to say a few words on the subjects on this thread. Going extreme in anything (be it silence, cars or <insert anything here>) is bound to be "over the top" for anyone not completely into whatever niche it is one is obsessing about. As far as water cooling a computer is concern...

My 2c

I myself am running a total of 7 fans in my setup. I think if you select the fans carefully you can have a quiet setup. My fans run at around 500-600 rpm AND the CPU and GPU are water cooled with an external radiator, so I probably wouldn't need all the fans. I do however like to keep things cool. T...

Just a thought

I posted my DIY solution earlier to this thread: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=38464 You seem to be able to handle some copper sheet so if you have any clearance (around 1mm) on the sides of the drive you could maybe check it out. IMO it's simple and works - since you already ...

My DIY solution

I made myself a few heatsinks from just bent .8mm copper plates. First I cut a sheet of copper to appropriate pieces of about 5.75x6", then bent a side 1.75" from the edge to a 90 degree angle. I also drilled holes for screws matching the position of the HDD screws. The measurements are about what t...

Have a Phantom 500, though not sure its "the best"

I purchased a Phantom 500 a while back and it has no issues with buzzing. I do have the thing connected thru an UPS though... 230V @ 60Hz. It's fan did, however ramp up WAY too soon when I first installed it, but when I took it apart (the front part of the PSU) it started working as expected. I then...

Possible pressure test rig

I was wondering about this as well, and I think there might be a way to test how much pressure a fan generates at a given rpm. What you need is a airtight box with hole to mount the fan into and a U shaped transparent tube going through a wall as well. Then put coloured liquid in the tube leaving bo...

That's what I thought it should behave like

I ended up installing two Nexus' into the lower chamber, both running up to 800rpm and the PSU fan still started up and stayed on. Now that I've opened and replaced the fan the new fan never turns on. Now I run pretty much the same setup you do, (single Nexus with low rpm) and the fan doesn't turn o...

I modded the PSU yesterday, problem gone

I removed the front grille which was impeding the air flow through the PSU and switched to a regular-depth 80mm fan (a Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000). I left the PSU in the open to test that the system works and with a the fan setting at 1, the fan starts and stops in about a minute cycle, with low rpm...

A noisy Antec Phantom 500 in an Antec P180

Hi! I have a problem with my Phantom 500 PSU. I installed the thing in a Antec P180 case and replaced all the fans in the case with the Nexus 120mm fans (undervolted). I have trouble believing that my system would draw more than 125W of power at maximum load, but the fan in the PSU still starts afte...

Door warping

I was looking into purchasing a P180 since last winter (it gets cold here in Finland) and read up on this door warping problem. I decided to wait until late summer before purchasing to eliminate the problem... And it worked. I got mine about a month ago, no warping. I guess everyone should do the sa...

Studio noise

your bedroom measures 12dBA at night... you do know that even in a soundproof recording booth where the noise level is without any doutb lower than a bedroom, they measure 20-25dBA ? ;) http://www.proav.de/data/studio-noise-levels.html I guess that would kinda depend on the frequency. I don't know ...

Any experience with Sharkoon Silent Eagles?

I was just wondering since a sales rep tried to sell me those as the quietest 80mm fan out there.
