I tried once more. I fixed fan control on Gigabyte card. I could not find the last missing part, I added my own part (a resistor between the control trace and +12V). The picture I posted earlier: http://www.bildites.lv/images/i1hsisrq0zsjq7nre3.jpg Two places for transistors are marked. The left on...

I got an HIS 4670 Turbo IceQ based on reading reviews that it was very quiet. At idle, I find that it's too noisy for a quiet PC. I probably should've gotten the silent version with stock Zalman heatsink. You may want to look at the Powerplay states and considering modifying them if you have no qua...

Quick question

Has anyone ever come across any evidence that there's any use testing the intermediate voltages with RBE if 0.9V doesn't seem to do anything? In my HIS iSilence4 4670, I've tried with 0.9V but it doesn't seem to have an effect, the temperatures (I believe idle although didn't actually wait for it to...

I think it's less about disabling features and more about hand picking the best available sample and tweaking the BIOS so that it gets maximum power saving. I don't really see what there is to tweak in the bios though. Perhaps there are some settings we're not are of but it seems to me, the most li...

I have kind of given up on the 'perfect card'. Sadly, no one seems to be able to come close. The 4770 would be awesome if they did some more work on the idle power consumption and maybe take off the 6-pin connector since it only uses ~60w... oh, and being able to buy them anywhere would be awesome....

These used to be available in NZ, but don't seem to be any more. I never really looked that well though, was just wondering if the iSilence4 (which comes with this HSF) was worth it.

I'm starting to think that the only way review sites can be sure of not being cheated by manufacturers is to buy the cards retail themselves. Actually, there is one other option. Post the BIOS file so it can be compared with retail ones. Any chance of that, Mike? Has there been any actual evidence ...

Yes I know this is very old but came across it while searching for something unrelated. I can vouch for m0n0wall supporting IPv6 in the latest beta. I've been using it (IPv6 I mean) for several months and it works fine. As you may already know, it can even fit on a tiny CF and doesn't demand much fr...

Coolermaster Elite 33x series vs Thermaltake Matrix

Hey all, Anyone ever compared the Thermaltake Matrix to the CM Elite 33x series? They're rather similar in basic design, dust filtered front mesh, fairly small, toolfree disk and expansion card slots, 12cm fan options on the back and front. The Thermaltake has Firewire but the CM Elite appear to lac...

Critique of the review

Mike from a brief look thorough of the review there are two critiques. Firstly you failed to emphasise sufficiently that a Phenom (well more specifically HT3.0 or rather at least 1.6ghz) is necessary for full deinterlacing options (possibly other post processing options but I'm not certain of that) ...

Is quad core a good choice for a HTPC? The most demanding function for a media PC is probably to record and playback video/audio at the same time, so in our view, a quad core is not the best choice... unless recorded content is encoded on the fly with a threaded application that can utilize the pot...

I am not saying that Maui is the only solution or the perfect solution, there are other solutions and a discrete GPU card or alternative chipset is certainly an option. You misunderstand my comment. I am not questioning the utility of the Maui platform. I am questioning the utility of the 7.1 pre-a...

Rare poster, frequent browser. I'm looking at this case for a media server. Its also missing the small details the P182 has, such as the padding between the chassis and the side panels, the silicone gromets for mounting the HDDs or the silicone feet (all to dampen vibration). NZXT has some pictures...

Since wifi cards are quite cheap nowadays unless you've got some sort of super card why not just get a PCIe one and sell the PCI one if it doesn't work? CPU can't access the memory that resides at display card. 1GB on 4670 is a marketing gimmick. I would warn buyers against any GPU that can't stay under ~75C under load. Temps much above that are pathetic, both in regards to the longevity of the card itself and for the heat it's putting off into the rest of your case. If AMD/NVidia can't design adequate cooling for a given card, I will wait ...

Hey all, Gigabyte launched their Ultra Durable 3 line for AMD which includes Easy Energy Saver while Asus launched their pseudo AM3 line with EPU which appear to be some of the first AMD boards with such energy saving features, present on the Intel ones for a while. The D2 DSP is actually down on the motherboard as well. There are 2 different card options (7.1 Pre Amp) or 5.1 Amp. Both rely on the D2Audio DSP to do all the digital processing then pass those processed signals out to the amp/pre amp card installed. The amp card is not stand alone (neither is pre...
