Re: Antec shows P280 Mini at Computex!

The Antec site now lists the Mini P180 as "Discontinued", so I'm now hoping that means the Mini P280 is near (CES looks like a suitable launch moment?) and not that they've decided to drop the 'Mini' Performance One ideas.

What would be the point of installing such a low level cooler if you'll have a videocard towering over it anyway?

What about getting the cables out of the top chamber? The EA-380 is a 140mm PSU and, judging by the pictures in the review, leaves only the bare minimum of room to get to the cable holes.

Re: Antec shows P280 Mini at Computex!

I found some pictures of the case in more angles + insides. I'm really hoping that removal of the center drive cage is possible + open up that area for longer cards. Other than that, seems like a fairly straighforward interpretation. I like it. http://watchmonoblog.blog71.fc2.com/blog-entry-2197.htm...

Fancier ram usually has a lifetime warranty whereas cheaper ram does not. True, my 'advertised as noname' (though the module is labeled as Transcend) 1GB DDR2-667 modules (running 2T 5-5-5-15) are only under warranty till 2017 :). In any case, I've always bought value RAM, never had a problem with ...

AMD sockets are rated at 300g (I think), but most after market HSF are heavier than this. 754/940/939/AM2 and S775 are all specced at 450g. Socket A was indeed less, and I think 300g may be right on the mark. In any case, since AMD/Intel moved to the (backplate+)frame system, heatsinks can actually...

Does the BIOS register similar temps with a different (better fitting perhaps?) heatsink?
If so, the temperature offset in your BIOS may just be too high, which cause faulty numbers to be displayed.
If not, the Ninja might be obstructed somewhere.

My ASUS motherboard manual shows the pin-definitions in both HDA and AC'97 modes. If your motherboard manual has the same, it should be easy to match.

If you need more than 4 gigs of memory, you have to get a 64 bit OS. Actually it could already be benifitial with 4GB or less aswell. For example: You have 3GB of RAM, a videocard with 1GB of memory and a bunch of PCI devices (network, audio,...). Now, because some of these devices and their memory...

The green stuff where the pins are is not the silicon. The silicon is invisible and can only be inspected after prying of the metal heatspreader. Removing the heatspreader is risky, and more or less makes your CPU incompatible with your heatsink.

Hehe, unfortunately, no. Less cache means more memory activity, which actually means higher consumption :) (but not enough to really care about in desktop or even mobile systems).

Most LEDs need about that sort of range of resistor to not burn out, so adding another one should ~half the power to the LED. It'd have to be a pretty nasty LED to need more than that.

Had it enabled in the BIOS and assumed Vista would support and automatically use it, but I guess not. AFAIK all you have to do is select the appropriate power profile (Minimal Power Use, IIRC). I've read CnQ should work right out of the box if you select the correct profile. [EDIT] http://www.gamed...

Those extra top vents are actually kinda nice: Take a PSU with a bottom fan, turn it upside down, add minimal ducting (few cm wide cardboard plate probably) and the PSU airflow is completely isolated.
