Re: Any experience with Antec Titan 650 server/workstation c

I helped a colleague build a server using one of these cases. The 650 has no sound dampening whatsoever. You would have to install absorbtive material to both side panels, the top and the back of the door, and some sort of antivibration for the drive mounts. The included power supply is quite good b...

You might have a look at the Galaxy GC dual fan model. It's fairly quiet, and is 10" long.

Another monitor heavily influenced by the television market. I wish they'de make some solid monitors in this size in 16:10 again. It's a nice monitor but not sure why anyone would go for this instead of a 30" @ 2560x1600.

SAPPHIRE Ultimate HD 6670

Anyone know if this will fit in an Antec NSK-2480?

Sapphire's website lists the height as 130mm (5.12") but it looks taller than that so I'm thinking that is the card height and doesn't include the upper heatsink.

Re: Gigabyte GA-F2A75M-D3H Budget FM2 Motherboard

Is it worth trying to track down the aftermarket heatsinks that people were putting on the Gigabyte boards for the higher wattage Phenoms a couple of years ago for these? I'd assume the 85X of this board version runs equally hot or hotter. Since there are no mounting holes any sinks would of necessi...

Problem with Article Discussion

When I try and go to the article discussion linked at the end of teh Gigabyte GA-F2A75D3H review I get a message "You are not authorized to view this board." Nor does the article appear in the Article discussion section. :(

Can you advise? :?:

Re: ASUS F2A85-M Pro microATX FM2 Motherboard

Would be nice to compare this with the Gigabyte F2A85XM-D3H. I have reservations about the Gigabyte due to their (typical) lack of heatsinks for the VRM's (which was a problem for the Phenom boards).

Re: Silverstone TJ08-E or PS07 or ???

EDIT: Should probably add that using actual elastic bands, the kind we steal from the office stationary cupboard (hands up stationary kleptomaniacs) is probably not ideal. The rubber used will tend to perish and crack over time, better to get down to a craft store and splurge a whole dollar, maybe ...

These are great and overclock like gangbusters while staying cool. Unfortuantely both Newegg US and Newegg Canada are sold out.

Re: Thermalright HR-01 Plus Passive for i5 3570k?

It usually runs on the low to mid 40's C under normal use. Under heavy load it might climb to 55. I've tried gaming with it passive and it climbed to 60-70's mark so If I'm going to play a game I use a fan. Right at this moment I have it OC'ed to 3.6GHz with an NF12P and the fan speed is showing 320...

Which APU

I have the opportunity to pick up an new AMD APU at quite a good price. I am however somewhat of two minds as to which to choose. Heatsink will likely be a Mini Ninja as I have a NIB one on the shelf. A10-5800K - 3.8GHz CPU, 800MHz GPU, 100W TDP or A10-5700 - 3.4GHz CPU, 760MHz GPU, 65W TDP The old ...

Re: Thermalright HR-01 Plus Passive for i5 3570k?

I have an HR-01 passive on a QX9650 at stock speeds in a P182. Case fans are 1200rpm Slipstreams in the front and bottom, and 800 rpm slipstreams top and rear. It works fine. (I have from time to time overclocked it at which time I use a Noctua NF12P.) Should handle an i5 without too much trouble :)

The older system is my home server that ahs been running 24/7 for about 5-6 years (minus an occasional reboot, cleaning etc.) The workstation has averaged (estimate) about 6 hours a day for 4 years. Sometimes not on some days, or on all day etc. The Noctuas are usually about $19-20 CAD but can occas...

Re: What's with the Noctua fascination?

Having just "refanned" a case with Noctuas I can tell you two reasons - reliability and longevity. When I built my current workstation in 2008 I thought I'd try for as quiet as possible. SO following reviews and threads and this forum I filled the case with Scythe Slipstreams - 1x800rpm CPU, 2x800 r...

Re: Fan Roundup #6: Scythe, Noiseblocker, Antec, Nexus, Ther

Great review. Unfortunately, as has been observed, 800 and 1150rpm GT's are unavailable anywhere pretty much (though EU outlets still seem to have stock). Noiseblockers are the same way - unobtainable.

I wonder how noisey my case would be with 5 1450rpmGT's?

Re: Swap out fans?

Gentle Typhoons are quiet at 800rpm but they do not undervolt well so buy the 800rpm@12v versions if you want quiet. I would have preferred 800's and 1150's but I cannot find any of those speed models in Canada. Everyone only seems to stock the 1450/1850/3000 rpm models. If I want slower speeds I m...

Swap out fans?

Back again about my Slipstreams. I wrote last spring about some failing fans. Well a good cleaning and they're running again - albeit not at full speed. I figure that it is a matter of time before the slow ones do reach an unuseable speed and the ones still running fien (2/5) start to slow. I had or...

Replacing failing Scythe Slipstreams - Opinions?

I have a P-182 that is currently cooled using Scythe Slipstreams. (top, rear and CPU heatsink (HR-01) are 800 rpm, front and lower compartment are 1200 rpm) All fans are about 3.5 years old. Within the last two or three months, the CPU fan, front fan and top fan have started to fail with speeds drop...

Re: No low-end 28nm GPUs from AMD?

It's hardly low end, but the 7950 is out and the Sapphire HD 7950 OE seems SPCR-worthy. It runs at 1v instead of the usual 1,1v (this is probably due to luck on Anandtech's part or cherrypicking by Sapphire) and has noise under load comparable to other cards at idle. Under Metro 2033 load noise ris...

Forget about future proofing. A router may not last forever, and it will probably break by the time you need something faster. If the price difference isn't great future proofing is a good idea. It doesn't have to mean proofing against 5 years down the road. It can mean that if 3 months from now yo...
