LianLi PC-Q27B: Build report, temperature, fan experimenting

Hi, I have just built a new server PC using the Lian Li PC-Q27B chassis and would like to share some experiences. Particularly regarding what fans to use, and what positioning of those results in the best and most quiet cooling. Some illustrations: http://www.lian-li.com/en/files/2013/04/q27-12.jpg ...

Re: New Mini-ITX server build - Lian Li PC-Q11 or other opti

Thanks for the tips Abula! Your Lian Li PC-Q11 build looks really nice. Clever design by not using a standard ATX PSU. If I'd do everything from scratch I'd probably do like that. But I don't like having external power bricks, so in that case I'd keep it inside the case. Yes, I know it dissipates he...

Re: New Mini-ITX server build - Lian Li PC-Q11 or other opti

I beg your pardon, but your questions sound somehow similar to what you asked here about one year ago . Yes, I intended to build the server already one year ago. But the new WD Red drives with larger than 4 TB capactity that I was waiting for were delayed (compared to leaked orginal release plans)....

New Mini-ITX server build - Lian Li PC-Q11 or other option?

Hi, I'm building a new compact Mini-ITX based server PC. It will contain: * Intel 4670K + Mini ITX motherboard * Scythe Big Shuriken Rev B CPU cooler & fan * 2x3.5" HDDs * 1x2.5" SSD * Seasonic G360 PSU Now I only have to decide on a suitable chassis. I'm considering getting the Lian LI PC-Q11 . How...

I'm sure I'm not following your question: the actual thread topic is not about when SPCR is likely to get any drive in for review but about latest WD high capacity drives market availability, and my post is directed to andyb update, and not to any of your questions. You do realize andyb's update th...

I'm not sure I follow. What does that have to do with the question of when SPCR is likely to get WD Red 6 TB drives in for review?

Sounds great! Do you know if there is any status update on SPCR receiving a WD 6 TB Red for review? And is there any rough estimate of when a review might be published? I'm considering getting some of these drives but would like to see the SPCR review first, so that's why I wonder.

Re: WD Red 5TB WD50EFRX and 6TB WD60EFRX on the way

Have anyone seen any review where the noise level of the 5 & 6 TB WD Red drives is measured? Especially since at least the latter is 5 platter.

Preferably, I'd like to see such a review from SPCR, but I don't know if that is ongoing?

Re: Western Digital Red 4TB & Se 4TB Hard Drives

Nice review! Now the question is whether or not to wait until later this year to get the 5 TB WD Red as indicated by this roadmap . I wonder if those 5 TB models will be 5 platter x 1TB/platter or 4 platter x 1.25TB/platter? If it's the former, I wonder how much noisier they will be compared to the ...

Re: Mini-ITX enclosure for 2 or more 3.5" HDDs in suspension

The requirement is this: Minimum sized Mini-ITX enclosure that still fits at least two internal 5.25" slots (and the rest of the stuff needed for the computer of course ;) ). And no, I don't think it will be much bigger than many of the enclosures listed above. It could probably even be made smaller...

Re: Seasonic G360W gold for $60 - Review & Giveaway!

The review says: " Seasonic G360 SPL: In Hot Box <150W: 13 dB 150W: 17dB Hence, 150W is the point where the fan started to speed up. " I interpret this as that the fan is at base RPM until 150W and the PSU stays at 13 dB up until that. At 150W the fan starts to speed up, so there is a jump in noise ...

Re: Mini-ITX enclosure for 2 or more 3.5" HDDs in suspension

What strikes me here is the fact that you want a small case but at the same time the case should be big enough to suspend more than one HDD. Aren't those two goals exactly opposite of each other? So i find it not very surprising that no one comes up with a case that beats the laws of physics and in...

Re: Mini-ITX enclosure for 2 or more 3.5" HDDs in suspension

Well, I already commented on the suggestion to move HDDs from the desktop PC to a server, and I have already done that so I only have an SSD in my desktop PC. The problem is that not everybody can place their server where noise does not matter, hence the need to reduce noise by suspending the HDDs i...

Re: Mini-ITX enclosure for 2 or more 3.5" HDDs in suspension

Also, having 2-4 5.25" slots instead of 3.5" slots does not require that much extra space in the enclosure. And the noise reduction that can be achieved by mounting the HDDs in suspensions in those 5.25" slots is tremendous. While you are right in terms of space, there is not much demand for 5.25 s...

It's a nice size, and it's something like that I'm looking for. But as far as I could see it only had one 5.25" slot, and the rest was 3.5" slots. Would it really be possibly to mount two or more 3.5" HDDs using suspensions in that enclosure?

We do have a 4tb sample coming, but one reason for the bigger difference could be a higher number of platters... Yes, perhaps. Re: Western Digital launches new 2.5" Red Line and 4tb RED

The jump in noise level from 3 TB to 4 TB for the Red does not seem that big in idle mode. But in active mode the jump is quite big, from 29.4 dB to 33 dB. The jump in noise level between the 2 TB and 3 TB Red drives is not that big at all, from 29.1 to 29.4 dB. So could they have made some mistake ...

Re: Server Case - With noise dampening for multiple hard dri

Thanks! So as I understand it, some kind of suspension mounting is the best option to dampen noise from hard drives. But that means the 3.5" hard drives will have to be mounted in 5.25" slots with suspensions, right? So is there any suitable small case with about four 5.25" slots available for mount...
