I got a new motherboard (GA-P31-DS3L) and reinstalled Vista. So far everything seems fine, able to play games/run stress tests no problem. Oh and I had a look at power consumption, it's 120w idle and 219w at absolute full load.

Ok I ran memtest for 12 hours without errors, but it's still rebooting during games, and also in cpu stress tests like Orthos.

Well I've got the new power supply installed and now it's getting into windows fine, but it reboots after playing a game for a while

No recommendations? I don't mind if it's a modern/large drive, if it's 30gb, 80gb, 200gb.. I just don't want to waste money on something that might be "too fast" for this age of laptop, and it needs to be quiet and (mini)IDE.

I have recently purchased an n410c laptop and the hard drive
(toshiba mk3021gas) is very loud, especially when seeking. What would be a good drive to replace it with? I'm looking for something 20GB or greater, IDE and fairly cheap. Speed isn't really an issue as the laptop isn't mega fast anyway.

Try using the top vent with an intake fan and also try a 120mm fan on the hr-03.

My suggestion is to put it back down to the stock speeds, i bet that's your problem. The temps are fine for an 8800.

I would go for a seasonic 330W or 430W. I have the 430W version, it is very quiet and gives more than enough power to my pc (8800, overclocked core2duo etc..)

I know the lack of cool n quiet won't make that much difference, but I really liked the idea of an ultra low power PC. This crappy board has no tweaking options whatsover either, so I can't undervolt.

Hi, im trying to get cool n quiet working on my pc.
I have an AM2 sempron 2800+ on an MSI K9NGM-L motherboard. CnQ is enabled in the bios, I've installed the AMD processor driver and power management is set ti "minimal".

Any ideas?

OK I downloaded rivatuner and checkd, and the shaders do reduce as well, also the memory changes speed as it should. Unfortunately 3D detection dosent work with every game but i just use a hotkey to force it if needed. With these settings I idle at 55C, does that sound ok?

I am using ATI tool 0.26 under XP to have my bfg 8800gts 640mb OC run at 100/200 (400 effective) when not in a game/3d app and I have a couple of questions.
1, does this underclocking also reduce the shader clock?
2, can any harm come to the card from changing clock speeds all the time?

Clicking stop/start causes the same knocking noise, although the window does not change from active to standby mode in real time when i do things that access the hard drive (maybe that isnt a feature of this software.

Well I ran that program and if it found any errors it's not telling me. I enabled AAM with it, doesnt seem to make any difference. The knocking sound seems to come at the beginning of a seek, just before the (very quiet) 'scratchy sound'. My friend says maybe its the read heads engaging or something...

I would expect so, my ninja is running my heavilly overclocked core 2 duo passively right now, althrough the rear fan is at 12v. The fan that comes with the rev b is very quiet.

Ok i guess ill just put a fan on the ninja and then 7volt all 3 fans. Should be quieter than 2 fans at 12v?
