Any grille will be less efficient than no grille at all. That said, the less obstruction there is, the better. So the bigger the holes, the better, the small the members/struts, the better. Less is more. Of course, at some point, there's so little grille left you might as well not have any. Which ha...

While I agree the cage is likely to block the air flow from that fan, even 7 HDs are going to produce that much heat. Maximum HD puts out 10 watts. That's it. Seven of them comes up to 70 watts, that's if all 7 are maxing out which is highly unlikely. You can figure about 700 watts per cubic foot pe...

I agree about filters, they save a lot of cleaning. For what gets by, I use 3M cleaning cloths, cheap and washable. Do a great job of polishing and are great for monitors. Breaking down your system on a regular basis is not a bad idea either. Once a year or so. Maybe more often if you have a lot of ...

If I remember correctly, the TriCool has three wire connector. What's on the Gigabyte board? You should be able to find an adaptor, but I would suggest you either lose the fan controller or not connect to a motherboard header that controls the fan. Most motherboards that control fans do so via PWM w...

In which case id say go with an antec NSK1300. That case does not meet my criteria for future expansion. :( then id say go with an Antec NSK3300 Ditto, plus (I think) the case has side vents, which I prefer to avoid. First off, what's your budget cap? If you can afford the extra $50 or so, the Ante...

In my design, I allowed for 1.5" between the bottom of the fans, and the bottom of the filter, so if the filter was very thin, it would be fine, if not, I might have to give it a little more space. Between the bottom of the filter and the floor, there is only 5/8". But I consider this enough given ...

I did a bit of research on this as I didn't know either way. I found this by Anandtech. http://www.anandtech.com/printarticle.aspx?i=2922 It indicates these are the two platter version, both the WD740GD-00FLC0 model number, apparently what amounts to V2.0. The newer version 74GB drives with 16MB cac...

Raptor Hard Drives for Sale
Two 74 GB Raptor Hard Drives for sale. These are 'Recertified' by the factory, warranty replacements for the new drives that failed after 8 months. The warranty on them is good until 07/2011. These should be as good as new. I assume they are empty. Cache is 8MB. Retail list price is around $140. I a...

I wasn't aware of the GTS/GTX difference, that's good to know. As for cabling. the SOLO/150 is OK. Not great, but not bad. It does have some cable management on the right side. But it is a substantially smaller case (3' less height, 1.5" less depth), which makes for tighter cabling inside. In other ...

My understanding is the 8800 graphics cards won't fit. Well, they can be shoe-horned in but you have to fiddle with the hard drives and cut up the drive case some to get them in. Even then its very tight. Look for a thread titled Lengthen SOLO 5 CM. or something like that. It discusses the problem a...

Its just a rule around the house, touching the SOLO is a NONO. Which isn't very hard to enforce, its just me and the better half and she has no interest in computers whatsoever and wouldn't touch one for any reason other than perhaps to push it off her if it fell on her. Then only with a stick while...

Regards that PSU issue, if the PSU was mounted to the left side panel and that was hinged at the back, and you had adequate cable lengths (which if you have a modular PSU, shouldn't be a problem) it would solve the problem entirely. When you open the left side panel to work on the machine the PSU ro...

Don't know about the chipping on the P150, but as for the SOLO showing fingerprints, that's what high gloss finishes do. Its the mark of a high gloss finish. Its why you keep children with their greasy, sticky, grubby little fingers away from such surfaces. Its the same with mirrors, highly polished...

Can't say much about the rest of the cases, haven't tried them. But the SOLO and P150 (basically black and white twins) are super little cases. I absolutely love my SOLO. Thanks for the comments. Hopefully its good now. These are really good cards. I wouldn't be selling them except I haven't any use for them. BFG - 7600 GT OC SLI PCIe Graphics Cards for Sale
Pair of BFG 7600 GT OC Graphics Cards PCI-e 16 Unused. Still in Boxes. With all accessories. Life-time warranty (this is a really great feature as I recently found out, no questions asked, they just replaced an ancient 6800 GT). These cards have the stock BFG cooler. They have 256 MB of GDDR3 memory...

its loud *duh* but my hdd now posts temps of 28c with a 1950rpm fan runniing, used to read 42c with no cooling. Google just posted a study showing that low HD temps actually increased the failure rates. Temps in the 20-29 failed more than drives at 55C. Harddrives at 42C are actually right in the s...

That's a matter of personal preference. I like to keep everything cool. And I do monitor it all. But to each his own. If you have a good exhaust fan it will be pulling air in through the front anyway, its the way the case is designed. Of course, it will have to work harder than it would with some fa...

But will you get all the small holes and the slight gaps at the doors and the cracks between the drives and all the other little sources of leakage. I installed a baffle on my SOLO, to separate the PSU from the rest of the gear. Well, not entirely, it pulls its air in through the 5.25 bays at the top front. The arrangement seems to work well. The PSU is one of the components that can generate noise and which you have little control over. Normall...

I wouldn't blow your hot exhaust air on anything that needed cooling. I would definitely blow it out the exhaust. I also don't see why that would make any difference with having an intake fan. I have both intake fans running as well as the exhaust. If your concern is quiet, don't use the supplied Tr...
