Poodle, I am about to buy one of the APC RS UPS. My question to you is for the APC RS BR1500i, does the fan only kick in when there is a blackout? The current one I have bought two days ago (another brand) has it's fan on 24/7, and I am pissed off as I have a relatively quiet PC setup. Also, how man...

Your best screen resolution in PC mode is 1360x768 max. Your best screen resolution in TV mode is either 720p (1280x720 progressive) or 1080i (1920x1080 interlaced). If you don't use the Dreamcast that often, I'd suggest using VGA for your PC which provides slightly better picture quality, and a bet...

An update on my experience with this drive: Temps reached 44-46 degrees after many hours of extended use on idel , but in exess of 50 degrees on load (e.g. when copying a large file to hard disk). For the reference I have two of these in 2 5.25" bays, next to eachother, and have material sitting und...

Super silent? Lol.

I have the stock 12cm LED fans on their Armour case, they claimed it was 17dB. However, even 5V they are the major source of noise in my quiet system now.

The SQD works best when you soft mount the SQD. I've placed cut outs of bubble wrap padded envelops under the drive and mounted onto the 5.25" bays on my rail system. It's a ghetto fix, but it works without spending any further cash. My PC is sitting next to my TV 1m away from me and is very quiet n...

From what I know, the P150 uses an elastic suspension system to reduce vibrations. For your case, are vibrations the main source of hard disk noise, or is it the hard disks spinning? If it is the hard disk spinning, and if you can still hear it in the P150, the Scythe Quiet Drive would help to reduc...

Screwing in the black screws helps tighten the enclosure, reducing the amount of noise that escape, as well ensuring that the hard disk will not eventually fall off. Probably not such a big issue with rail type bays, as the rails would support it. I have difficulty screwing in the black screws too, ...

Not sure about that, I'm using a Thermaltake Armor case with their rail system. My front bezel is made of mesh, and lets noise escape, but aids in inflow. I thought the P150 and P180 cases would be good to quiet the hard disks by the case design itself. Yes, the Scythe Drives are expensive, especial...

The result works best if you are able to mount the Scythe Quiet Drive in such a way that vibrations are reduced, then idle noise is reduced dramatically to a faint hum. Not completly silent, but quiet at 1 meter.

I'm using the standard 160 Gig WD Sata drives from several years ago. The manufacturer noise specs is 28 or 32dB. I've removed the two screws on the side of the Quiet Drive tonight, and the vibration is from the drive to the case is further reduced to a faint low hum, so I'll leave it at that for no...

I received two Scythe Quiet Drives this week. The drives and the paint are easily scratched during installation, so you need to be careful when installing it against sharp objects. The whine of the hard disks are reduced, but as mentioned from another poster, a low hum of vibration remains. I'm thin...

You don't need to get a special power supply to do that. Get a 4-pin molex Y splitter, and mod it to a 5V or 7V, then connect your fans to it in serial. Although it won't be thermally controlled like what the special power supplies can offer, but it is a quick and cheap alternative to quiet down tho...

I have a Thermaltake Armor case, and undervolted one of the fans to 7V, and connected the other 3 fans by passing through eachother - therefore all 4 fans are being supplied 7V. It works well, and saves me from spending extra money buying low rpm fans, although a very tiny amount of motor noise rema...

Hi Zeiram,

About the VF900, unless the temperature inside the case is raised very high as a result of the VF900 not exhausting the heat out the back of the case, you wouldn't need to worry about it.

Have you tried using Riva Tuner? I used to use that to reduce my fan speeds down to a barely audible level.

It doesn't work with all cards though.

The options to adjust the fan speeds are on a separate tab next to the overclocking options.

I compared the scythe to the bare drive suspended, the result was 6,5°c over ambient when suspended, and with the scythe it was 8°c over ambient. So not a big difference compared to a bare drive :) I measured the ambient temp at the intake just before the drive. Thanks. I have read the temperatur...

Nici, I am interested in getting two Scythe Quiet Drives for my hard drives, but I am concerned about the temperature increases. I currently have my hard drives in a Thermaltake iCage, and a 12cm LED fan blowing on them (and gosh they are loud but powerful) keeping the drives at 25-32 degrees. Witho...
