With a 120mm fan it can cool anything it fits on (which physically excludes nVidia 260/280 and GX2 cards). On an Ati HD4850 works great, way lower temperatures than stock even at passive, and HD4870 would also be just fine.

You'll be amazed how cool the card will run with an Accelero S1 (especially with a 120mm fan).

8800GT. It's not very expensive, and is the fastest of the three. DIRT is quite a demanding game.

How exactly did you test them? It could be that the fan connector you tried was itself disabled or temperature controlled.

If so, then what temperatures are you getting?

Okay, the cooler reaches 40...42mm over the edge of the video card (8800GT), which is in turn about 5mm wider than the metal strip you screw the card to the case with. Removing the easily detachable plastic bit will shave off a good 8mm or so.

This should give a sense of scale: http://www.hardwarezone.com/img/data/nnews/2007/9466/Image/AccS_Comp_8800GT_3870.jpg Basically, if your case can house a DVD drive perpendicular to the motherboard (which it does), it's pretty much guaranteed to fit. In the worst case you can easily remove the blac...

Difference between 256MB and 512MB isn't so much the average framerate (unless there's >256MB of textures on screen at once), but smoothness and less stuttering, similarly to using a computer with 512MB RAM vs 1 GB of RAM. I'd definitely say get the 512MB version if you plan to do any gaming.

Only thing that worries me is that I've never heard of ECS before. They've been around, known as PC Chips ( of fake plastic cache memory chips fame ) back in the day. My impression with their products has been that they're the cheapest of the cheap, and if there was a penny to be saved from using a...

Todays games are demanding and 10-15 fps is unacceptable even in 1994 standards a.k.a doom (1) That may be true for first person shooters, but even at times playing World of Warcraft with as little as 10 frames per seconds absolutely does not take away from my enjoyment nor my capability to play. If it's a minitower case and wide enough to fit a standard-sized DVD drive horizontally (perpendicularly to the motherboard), then it's pretty sure the S1 will fit.

I can't see any difference between the old one and the new one, except the new one has 2 sets of mounting holes, so it can fit 8800GTS 512.

In theory it could also fit 8800GTS 320/640 or 8800GTX if more memory heatsinks and VRM cooling could be provided.

You might take a look at the Turbo Module if you're using SLI and low on space. Those fans are only 15mm thick, so the whole enchilada won't take more than 3 slots of space, 2 of which cooling. They do have their own little problems, as they don't have frames around them so you need to be careful wi...

Running it completely passively in an Antec P182 case with 1 intake fan and the 2 exhaust fans on low, I'm getting temperatures of 45-50C idle and 60-65C under load. I'm contemplating adding the Turbo Module or regular fans to it, but right now it works jus...

AC Accelero S1 is the BEST cooler for 8800GT / ATI38?0 cards

Sorry about the pretentious headline. It's almost like trolling. I know, there's always different strokes for different folks. Some coolers are better in one way, some in the other.. However, it really seems like S1 is receiving too little attention here, the domain of quiet cooling solutions, where...

Oh god, I just read that unlike the existing 8800GTX, the 8800GT will use a similar cooler mounting as 7*00/6*00 series, so it can take all kinds of existing aftermarket GPU coolers. Meaning it could, unlike 8800GTX, be made to run with passive, or almost passive cooling with a quiet 120mm fan strap...

Accelero S1 is honestly a fantastic product. I'd never thought a cheap passive cooler could do a decent job at cooling a 7800GTX, but at least in my P182 case it very much does, with 15C better results than the noisy stock cooler did. If you're interested in even lower temperatures and overclocking,...

I believe watercooling is only just starting to become mainstream and necessary. Sure, a Core 2 Duo chip can be air-cooled nice and quiet, but looking at the upcoming graphics chipsets, nVidia and ATi are hinting that their upcoming products can draw up to 300 watts of power. Try cooling that quietl...
