The Xigmatek battle axe was rated fairley highly by MikeC. I can't tell if the IXG has bigger heatpipes than the battle-axe, but they are squeezed closer together so there is more contact with gpu core.

It only takes up normal two slots, not 4 like the battle axe.

you already got it, but yes.

I have this setup now. Since the cards power connector faces forwards you must be sure to tidy your videocard power connector securely to stop it from interfering with the HDD cage fan

IXG-80HA2 Extrema Pro GPU cooler review

Hi, The Inquirer's Friday hardware roundup turned up this review on Bjorn3d.com it is a 5-heatpipe GPU cooler which uses a 'direct touch' heatpipe design which has been quite successful on some recent CPU coolers. It has an additional fan pack of 3-80mm low profile un-caged fans similar to the origi...

High power CPU warning

Hello, I notice that one or two of you are considering overclocking and putting high TDP CPUs in this board. There appears to be a problem with the low 7xx chipsets supporting the high power (quad core 9850 etc) CPUs. It is not a fault of the chipset itself, but a design flaw with the board manufact...

Free SANACE fan

I got this Ad in my work mailbox form an electronics sourcing company. I've put in for a sample, but i could get anything from 60mm to 120mm with any option for pulse and lock sensor. they're from SANYO DENKI who actually say " SANACE is the lowest noise, highest airflow, best manufactured dual ball...

Its interesting to read about the strain the S1 puts on the power components on idle, compared to the HR-03.

I assume this is becasue the fins are directly underneath them heating them up, whereas the smaller HR03 footprint doesn't cover them or even better is mounted on the reverse of the card.

Power consumption

Do you have any power consumption details of your HD3870? I've just been using one of those mains plug in devices to measure my entire system draw. Idle 87W ATI tool 3D view on 195W (Seasonic S12 rev1A) beraring in mind that idle uses Cool'n'Quiet and that ATi tool causes CPU and GPU both to 100%; i...

Hi Guys, I definitely recommend this card - i think the 3800 series are very reasonably priced considering new launched top-of the-range cards are usually in the £300 range. In my case this Sapphire card is a warranty replacement for a defective X1950XT. Titus, I see that my post was a little ambig...

ATI HD3870 - the sound of silence

Hi there, I've been a quiet member of these forums for a while. I wouldn't say i'm in the same league of silence as some of the geeks in here, but i do obsess about PC noise level in my own little way (since i sleep with the PC on in the same room), and i have gone so far as to build little ducts an...

Looks a lot like my modified VM-101 . The caption under the photo describes the results compared to unmodified VM-101 . My 9600 Pro is far from a "high end" GPU, so I'd be hesitant to make any claims in that regard. I was a little worried about the torque applied to the mounting block and its skinn...

i think i've read that the Zlaman LED fans are made of a lighter, stiffer/more brittle plastic which gives off a higher frequency rattle than the non-LED black fans.

fans in parallel

Hi, not sure which forum is best for this - is it generally OK to connect fans in parallel - two powered from the same PWM header (with only one tacho wired)? if so, is it usually OK if they are different sizes - 60mm and 120mm? I have just wired a 120mm front case fan to the connector of the Arctic...

Know of any software other than 'ATI tool' that can control my X850 fan speed?

ATI tool is normally good, but since i hooked up a 120mm silverstone to my AC5 i have experienced a loud whine that reminds me of an old TV being on.

so long as its not made of cardboard like it looks (!) then a genuine heavy downpoar won't be too much trouble.

I reckon morning Dew/frost/humidity is going to be the ultimate poblem.

Hey,

perhaps you could post some outside/case/CPU temps every couple of weeks. Winter is coming and the first frosts are appearing (in the UK anyways).

A well made and well positioned outdoor case could make effortless cooling. Humidity and spider ingress would probably have to be monitored!

give your case an IP rating! http://www.aquatext.com/tables/ip_ratings.htm This is how industrial enclosures are rated for wetherproofing. IP00 = totally open and not waterproof to IP68 = drop it in the deep ocean. I'd say your case was IP13. So, have you had any small rodents/hobos trying to nest i...
