Re: Corsair CX650M 2015 edition

It is definitely coming from the fan. Once I turn the case around and put it underneath the desk, I don't hear the sound. But it still bugs me that it makes more noise than the stock rear case fan (Cooler Master N200, which is quieter than I expected) or the CPU fan (Cooler Master TX3). It's defect...

Re: Interesting Video of Corsair and JonnyGuru

"quest" is correct. It really depends on how the PSU's fan controller is programmed. One thing's for sure... if you buy a PSU that's "just enough" for your build, that PSU is going to be loud as bonkers at full load. Take these articles with a grain of salt.. since I work for Corsair and everything....

Re: Corsair RM Series intro'd

Only one graphics card? What you listed isn't going to even need 500W, so you could do a 650W and it would probably only spin up when gaming.

Re: Corsair RM Series intro'd

What the hell! So now what is the QUIETEST or even more appropriate for silencers from RM Series? Jonny Guru had told me RM850, but now with that update the stuffs change. Power output and price are no concern. Just I want to know what takes longer to turn its fan and has better acceleration curve....

Re: Corsair RM Series intro'd

Your outlet is properly grounded, right? And by "proper", I mean it's actually grounded and doesn't just have a socket for the ground pin. The PSU has been plugged into an ungrounded outlet, I just tried also a properly grounded outlet and turned ErP off - end result easily audible buzz and whine. ...

Re: Corsair RM Series intro'd

Got a 650W version a couple days ago. The unit seems to emit buzz or whine when the system is powered off, enabling ErP support in BIOS does seem to reduce the noise quite a bit though. Turning system power on cures the problem for a some reason. Not sure if there's variance between different RM PS...

Re: Corsair RM Series intro'd

Is it true that RM 650W is louder than 550W? Or which of 550, 650 and 750 is the most silent? Actually 550 is enough for me but I fear that with i7+770GTX+2 HDD, 1 SSD it may be more than 40% in idle so it won't stop the fans? (by idle I mean not full idle but something like webbrowser (with 50-100...

Re: Corsair RM Series intro'd

Yes. Safe to say Seasonic and Seasonic made units. They tend to have the same problem for the same reason. 5VSB? Or is there another compelling reason, more graphic-card-related? Other than the usual random buzz that you can hear in pretty much any brand of PSU out there, there are some PSUs that, ...

Re: Corsair RM Series intro'd

In order to do justice to Seasonic PSUs, I speculate that only their Platinum-rated PSUs have annoying electrical noise problems . That's probably why most people in SPCR are more or less satisfied with Seasonic Gold-rated PSUs where a few unfortunate people like me have been complaining about the ...

Re: Corsair RM Series intro'd

Jeremy's way backed up. I have no idea when he'll have his RM review live. But we never tested for noise. The load testers are pretty loud. The buzz would have to be REALLY BAD for us to hear it over the SunMoon. And eventually "your" Jerermy scored! As usual, thanks for your reviews, very much app...

Re: Corsair RM Series intro'd

I bought RM650 at 102 Euro At any rate the RM650 should be a different power supply than the RM450/550: I'm waiting to see whether or not there are actual noise/performance differences as well, by Jeremy (OklahomaWolf) & Mike (our MikeC). Actually, the 450, 550 and 650 are all the same platform.

Re: Corsair RM Series intro'd

Even so, anyway I am waiting for the Wolfie's gimmicks: here in Italy current Corsair's street pricing put the RM-series right into Seasonic X-Gold/Platinum-FL hunting lands... That's pretty whack. Retailer must be making a killing. They're supposed to be priced in the neighborhood of a Seasonic G-...

Supposedly: http://www.corsair.com/us/blog/there-is-more-to-psu-noise-than-fan-noise-how-we-fight-coil-whine-in-the-rm-series-power-supplies/ I'd rather an ex-post result than an ex-ante supposition. Re: Corsair RM Series intro'd

No. Embargo was Monday. It was early and kept shifting due to late ship dates. That caused some reviewers to shuffle and actually putting doing their RM Series reviews on the back burner. 450W and 1000W still haven't shipped and those that requested those wattages for review actually didn't even get...

Re: Corsair RM Series intro'd

A review of the RM 550 by PC Perspective, of which the most relevant page is maybe this one . The PSU fan does not run until at least 50% load on this model. Like I said, it's temperature AND time based. So either it wasn't hot enough in his lab and/or he didn't have the load on it for very long. I...

Re: Corsair RM Series intro'd

but with so many cases allowing you to mount the PSU at the bottom, fan side down, you rarely have higher than room temperature PSU intake temps anymore. This is something that im really interested, not only on the RM but in general, maybe since you have tested so many powersuplies and hotboxes you...

Newegg is listing them now with stock Oct 30. MSRP places them between the Seasonic G series and the Platinum X. Gonna review one of these, jonny? Jeremy already has one in his hands. Re: Corsair RM Series intro'd

RM isn't supposed to replace TX feature for feature. It's just the fact that it's 80 Plus Gold, instead of Bronze... fully modular, instead of semi-modular.... and super quiet instead of average noise levels.... at the same price point, why the heck would anyone want TX anymore when you can get the ...

But people are not recommending buying a PSU wich runs on 100% load all the time. You'd be surprised. The article that I see getting quoted the most is the DailyTech pre-launch 8800GTX article where they run 3DMark on a GTX and say, "oh look, it only pulls 375W from the wall." (paraphrasing here.) ...

First of all, kudos to Jonny for responding, always good to hear the other side of the argument. However, a lot of it does seem like handwaving, for example the case where it has no airflow so you recommend a 700W PSU even though he doesn't need it, wouldn't it be a better idea just to improve the ...

What? You guys didn't think I was a member here too? :p Look... There is no one clear cut "equation" that is going to suit everyone. I see this from both sides. I never did mean to imply a "200% rule" for anyone buying a PSU. First off, not all PSU's are the same or have the same characteristics. Th...

I'm still concerned about the lack of basic UL and FCC approval, though. Who says? The big UL logo and FCC logos on the box and label begs to differ. I've never seen an Ultra, or 95% of the PSU's out there for that matter, "lack" basic UL and FCC approval. Deer and Powmax is about the only brand I ...
