I bought the original TT Big Typhoon a while back before the VX came out. The two things that drew me to it were the huge heatsink and standard 12cm fan that I could replace if the need ever arose. Well, the need arose as the fan was DOA. I replaced it with a TriCool rather than deal with a NewEgg R...

Not sure about the others, but my ABIT A8N SLI board has a total of six 3-pin fan headers all temperature regulated within the BIOS. It makes a utility like SpeedFan unnecessary unless you want to control the fans through software. The board also has a passively cooled northbridge with a heatpipe. Y...

I still find myself tweaking something every now and again on my six month old system. Spending time researching those causal relationships between each fan and different temperatures and experimenting with different configurations should be considered a Zen practice. I've found that around 15...

I'd have to say a temp sensor would be better feedback than using CPU load. Not sure about your mobo, but my ABIT uses temperature and a high and low user-defineable voltage setting for each 3-pin fan header and each is set within the BIOS, so there's no software involved unless you're just monitori...

1. Yes. Choose a low-speed quiet 80mm fan that's been reviewed here like Nexus, Panflo, etc. 2. The fact that the fan kicks on after the receiver starts to heat up suggests that there's some sort of temp sensor built into the receiver controlling the power to the fan. 3. That's probably a resistor s...

My Asus AN8's uGuru fan control in the BIOS setup is something all MBs should have. Voltage range adjustments dependant on temperature delta, user definable with 6 independently controlled fan headers. I don't know of any motherboard BIOS that accesses SMART or GPU temps directly to control fan spee...

eSATA is the way I'll be going eventually for my main storage needs. I already have the cool and silent (although smallish) internal 2.5" SATA drive in the HTPC for the OS, a few programs, and temp storage for some media and P2P file sharing. For some real space, an eSATA enclosure that will fit two...

My SeaSonic PSU makes a slight buzz when the fan is spinning at its slowest. It disappears somewhat when things heat up and the fan speed kicks up a notch or two. Sounds like ball-bearing fan noise to me. It's so quiet though, I have to practically hold my ear up to the PSU fan to clearly make it ou...
