Problem with Gigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5 AM2 and Scythe Ninja

I installed my new Ninja in my new GA-M59SLI-S5, and the heatpipes of the Ninja push up against the first RAM card. They push it 1-2 mm out of alignment, so that the RAM card is very visibly tilted. Should I go ahead and try to use it that way?

I was wondering if that was the reason. I reacted strongly because I've been waiting for weeks to put this system together, and I just spread out the parts on the floor and pulled the case out of its box, and was trying to figure out where to sand off the paint to attach heatsinks to the side of the...

Antec P180b: PLASTIC? WTF?!?

I got my Antec P180b case in the mail. I bought it soley because it was so highly recommended here.

It's covered in PLASTIC.

What gives? Plastic is not a conductor! Plastic does not dissipate heat! What is the purpose of the plastic? And how much hotter will my computer be because of it?

Plates for HDDs

I wanted to get some aluminum or copper plates to sandwich my HDDs between, to dissipate heat. I found something similar, but more elaborate, at Sharka - a complete aluminum enclosure, with heatsink. BUT, it says that it RAISES HDD temperature by about 5C. Its purpose is noise reduction. Why would e...

Gigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5 590SLI AM2 wi Silent Pipe

I just ordered a GA-M59SLI-S5. From looking at a photo of the mobo, it looks like it's impossible to mount a chipset heatsink, because what I assume is the chipset is covered with a large copper cover that is connected to a radiator (built-in silent-pipe heatsink). Is this right? It's hard to get an...

Anybody put a Ninja on an AM2 socket CPU?

Scythe doesn't list the AM2 as a supported socket. Are there any AM2 mounts available for it?

I was just curious. I wasn't attacking SPCR or those components. I just ordered some of them.

SPCR component culture?

Has anybody noticed there are certain system components that are over-represented here compared to other websites on quiet PCs? For instance, the Antec P180 case, the Asus P5B motherboard, SeaSonic power supplies, the Scythe Ninja (one of Scythe's least-popular models AFAI can tell). Why is that?

Oops - The Gigabyte board actually on AMD's list is

Gigabyte GA-M55plus-S3G: Based on the GeoForce. 4PCI slots, PCI-E: 2x1, 1x16.

Is it better to have 2 extra PCI slots, or 1 extra PCI-E 1x slot?

AMD X2 motherboards: Gigabyte vs ECS

I checked the list of AMD-recommended motherboards, and eliminated all that I found that can't allow at least 16GB RAM. This left me with: Gigabyte GA-M55SLI-S4: nForce4 chipset, 16G RAM, $83. Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 nForce 570: 16G RAM, $133. Not on AMD's recommended list, but it may just not be up-t...
