Intel TAT is giving more believable results, 35 degrees celsius at idle, and 55 under load. :) I didn't know about that utility, thank you for advising me about it. :)

The cooler I'm using is the old Thermaltake Big Typhoon, a huge 120mm fanned heatpipe thing. The standard cooler wasn't used. I knew from the old Pentium 4 (which had a similar cooler) that the Intel coolers are useless, and this standard one looked identical. ;) FSX runs okay on it: http://www.race...

I can tell you all how it went. The Core 2 Quad QX6700 is amazing - it's the most powerful processor I've ever used in a computer. The 8800GTX runs well with it, and it all fits in the Antec P180 case without much bother. The Intel D975XBX2 mainboard appears to be better designed than the old D925XE...

The 24 pin cable actually goes just around the end of the graphics card. It's a very close fit, but it works. You are well advised to make sure your PSU's 24 pin cable is long enough (a normal warning for Antec P180 cases, but even more important here). Other cables (well, 1 at least), such as those...

The 8800GTX isn't too noisy - I have the Asus EN8800GTX running inside the Antec P180 case. It's a close fit, but it runs and doesn't make excessive noise.

It runs at around 70°C under load.

I purchased a NeoHE 550 watt PSU to use with my Antec P180. It worked well, and still would if I didn't need to replace it with something more powerful.

The fan inside the NeoHE never made even a whisper. :)

Thanks for the welcome. :) I have pulled out the middle drive cages, it did deliver a little more room, but not much, and certainly not enough to improve the situation. I'm only using 2 HDD's in the lower bay, so that helped a bit. I will post a couple of photos of the way it is configured tomorrow ...

Need advice on new case (for Intel QX6700 / Nvidia 8800GTX)

Hi, I've visited this site quite a bit, but never registered. It was one of the things that made me purchase the Antec P180 case. It has worked well, with a phalanx of 120mm fans cooling a scorching Pentium 4 3.4ghz Prescott processor. However, getting FLight Simulator X through the beta program con...
