Re: AMD Radeon HD 6570 & 6670 Budget GPUs

I think 'mczak' is right at saying that higher temperature causes higher power draw...

Is there a way to repeat the measurement of 6570 power draw using 6670 cooler?

@Parappaman: Why? Less heat in idle! Most people don't care, most people don't have passive HS on CPU and VGA ... but some do and those care.

The idle power draw for 4670 is just wrong. Noone else in the world could achive that!
SPCR schould measure again - as this review draws conclusions from it. We thrust SPCR, but not with this measurement.

Comparison between 'real' 4670 and 5670 would be nice.

I wonder if drivers for PowerPlay are working with those first cards. Idle power in many reviews is higher as with GT240 and lower than 4670. Acording to Xbits 4670 has bit lower idle running compared to GT240. I guess time to sit back, drink tea and wait one month before making judgement. I hope SP...

This card was rumored last monht, it's without power connector. From design point of view, I'd rather see that HS goes to the back of the card, something like HR03. I think this is better for most cases of passive use, as the heat goes up and does not hang below the card. More interesting to me is s...

Bit off topic: ... I had nvidia once ... but 2D picture was soo bad ... warranty is not everything... I still miss Matrox. It's very likely that you will change card after 2 years anyway. Green HD 5750: http://www.guru3d.com/news/powercolor-green-edition-radeon-hd-5750/ It will be interesting to see how they take care of power consumtion at load. 85W is too much for cards without any extra power so...

I'm using SQD2.5 inside SQD3.5 for about 2 years now! Yes, I know - it's too much for average PC - but I wanted ultimate silence. I have enclousures on bottom of PC where is almost no airflow, but HDDs still stay in idle at about 30 - 33 degC and load about 45 degC. Better than my notebook, where HD...

@40974111: I'd say in idle you could perhaps go away with a completely passive environment - depending of other components. But under load no chance. Under load you need airflow as normal setup hits over 100W easy.

I'd also back up Vicotnik and Matija. It now looks to wait for 4750 and hope ATI gets it right this time - with fully functional Power play states and better PCB layout, that is able to reduce voltage in idle.

@Lawrence Lee: I'd suggest, that you start to pay more attention in reviews to the fact if Powerplay is enabled and functional. MSI cards come with default BIOS setting at 0.9V (as far as I know), but the question is,
if they are really able to lower voltage so much (the same question applies to all other brands,
including HIS on your wish list).

For all asking about the noisy fan, new MSI card with Zalman cooling (R4670-2D512SP) could be solution. There's a 3 wire fan, maybe it has decent rpm control.
