Speed Monitoring when Fanmate fitted?
I think I am correct but just wanted confirmation before I ordered a couple of Fanmates. They are fitted with 3-pin plugs; does this provide speed monitoring via the motherboard even when turned down to minimum?

I have two Noctua 1200 fans in my P180 - one in the lower chamber and one as rear exhaust. At the moment both are fitted with the adapter which drops the speed to nearly half. The system is very quiet and I am pleased with the temperatures. On idle the CPUs are around 32C/33C (measured with Core Tem...

I figured that as the message was being generated during the BIOS routines before the OS loaded I had to disable the JMicron controller in BIOS. I did this - the message went away, and boot time was shorter by 4 seconds. However the CD-ROM drives no longer operated as boot devices. Not surprising re...

I´ll be here waiting for your conclusions, Well it is now running and I am very pleased. With the case sides off I cannot hear the drive above the (very quiet) noise made by my two Noctua fans running on a quiet seting. I disconnected the fans briefly and then had to put my ear close to the drive ...

P5B Deluxe POST Message - Error?
Still building my quiet PC - nearly there but not yet installed an OS. When I startup I get a POST message in green colour which lists my DVD-ROM and DVD writer with no other information. The screen pauses with a "Press F1 to continue" message - though it continues to boot anyway. In the boot order ...

No replies so I went ahead and did the modification anyway. I drilled four 6mm holes each side and fitted small rubber grommets to protect the cord. The cord is 3mm nitrile rubber (called o-ring cord). The knots are sealed with a bit of adhesive. I cannot comment yet on how well it works as I am sti...

Suspended Drive in P180
I would be interested to hear from anyone who has modified the HD mounting cage in the lower compartment of the P180 by drilling holes in the sides to achieve a suspended mounting arrangement similar to the recommended one here:

I have taken delivery of my P180B case today and have also been looking at the removal of the fan in the lower compartment as I want to fit a Noctua there. At first sight it seems impossible. Where is the video swayzak mentions? Also, can anyone explain the reason for raised baffle on one side of th...

AndyL said: If you are sold on running Vista, I would recommend you bump the ram to 2 GB. Thanks - I take the suggestion. I wasn't planning to jump into Vista as soon as it came out, not least because I might have a problem with drivers for my ageing printer and scanner. However I expect I will move...

where?wolf - I think I get it. One set of tests is quoting total system power while the other is quoting power from grahics card alone. I like the quote from Xbit labs - If you are looking for the most economical graphics card with all modern features supported, then the GeForce 7300 GS consuming on...

where?wolf - I looked at that Anandtech report and I can see that there seems to be little difference between the 7300GS and the 7600GS with different implementations showing idle power around 125 Watts and load power around 200W. However I am now confused because my choice was based on this thread:...

Thanks for the replies where?wolf and cmthomson. I had a look at the Thermalright HR-01 with duct and agree that with the duct it would seem to make a very efficient C2D cooler. But I was hoping to use only one fan in the upper chamber and so would the use of the duct arrangement lead to less airflo...

First Quiet System in P180
I have been reading the forums and articles here for some time and have learned a lot. My new build will not be first build but will be my first with "quiet" being a major objective. Here is my proposed build. I intend to get the parts on order when the holiday rush is over. I will not be playing ga...
