Thanks for the links. There is lots of information but now I'm undecided again. The article I alluded to in the first post is the one at AnandTech you linked. The first paragraph of the conclusion: "If you haven't gotten the hint by now, we'll spell it out for you: there is no place, and no need for...

Well, it looks like I'm going to get the 2 disks and do a Raid 0 setup. What I'm going to do with a app drive that big I have no idea. It's almost as big as all my drives now combined. I'm not too worried about the failure thing as I always keep my critical data backed up. If a drive goes down and I...

Well, maybe I'll have to get 2 T166's and put then in Raid 0. My only problem is this then. That makes for a big ass boot drive. Would it be better to just use the entire thing as one drive or can you partition a raid array? And if I partition it, would i see a performance hit if I am doing things o...

I've consider Raid 0 and my motherboard supports it, BUT it's a software solution and not a dedicated chip. I've heard that makes a fairly substantial difference. I've also read (can't remember if it was Anandtech or Extremetech or...) where they don't really recommend it as the performance isn't th...

740ADFD Raptor 74GB vs Spinpoint T166 HD321KJ in Antec Solo

I have an Antec SOLO with 3 Seagate drives, 2 200 gigs and one 300 gigs. The 300 (ST3300631A) is split into 2 with one partition working as my "os and app drive" and the rest is just storage. Well, I want something faster but I don't want it to turn my quiet computer into a coffee grinder. Now, I am...

From what I've read, the S1 should work fine on a x1800 XT and you might not even need the turbo module. I did read good things about the turbo addition so if you do get it you should be happy. I can't say whether or not it will fit in your mobo. It doesn't hang down below the card so if the card wi...

Is there an x1950 Pro that has a temp gauge? I play games everyday. I also run Folding @ Home too. Yah, I know a silent pc will just run hot and look like skyscrapers of heatsinks. I have a very small room, and keep my computer on over night, but I turn it off when I want a good nite sleep. That's ...

Hey syncmaster33, may I ask what is all the parts you use for your PC? I have been reading this because I also want a SOLO with 1950 Pro (and a silent heatsink) I was wondering what power supply, motherboard, CPU, you use. And did you add/replace any fans on your SOLO. Absolutely you can ask! I hav...

Just to tidy up this thread and maybe help someone who finds themselves in similar shoes, here's what I did. I got the S1 and installed it. It was pretty easy to put on and really isn't as big as I was thinking it was going to be. My card doesn't have a temp sensor so I don't know what the temps are...

with 4 harddrives in my antec solo, it's a really tight fit because of the placement of the pci-e power connector on my BBA x1950pro granted, an S1 or S2 would fit easily but it might be tight if you have all your hdd bays full and cables are going everywhere I have 3 drives now and the card which ...

Ok.....so it looks like I'm either going to get the S1 or bit the bullet and get the HR-03. The X2 is too loud and no one has even mentioned or talked about the thermaltake so I'll toss it out as well. If the S1 will fit in my case that and doesn't cover everything up then how can i not get it. If i...

If the S1 fits, go for it. That's the question. What are the dimensions of the beast? That guide thing they have at their website useless. I can't figure it out. I think I'm leaning to the X2 or the Hr-03 but the price difference sucks. I do like the idea of passive cooling with the S1 at a cheap p...

If it's the new design, with classic voltage regulation circuitry How can one tell the difference between the two designs? X1950 Pro plus what cooler in a SOLO???

I just picked up a used ATI Radeon x1950 Pro for a 100 bucks to replace my aging 9800 with a nearly silent Arctic Cooler on it. The X1950 has the stock cooler on it which I hear is just slightly quieter then a lawnmower. (Got it off ebay so I don't have it yet). Anyway, I'm looking to replace that w...

Good point. Never thought to look. I am using a hybrid board, the ASRock 775Dual-VSTA. The website doesn't list them as compatible, so I sent off an email asking. But for the sake of of this thread, lets just assume they are so when i get my response back from them, I know just what to do.

Your thoughts on replacing a Radeon 9800 Pro....

Ok. So after snooping around on this site for a while, I decided to upgrade my system to something that didn't sound like a vacuum cleaner. I dropped my Athlon 3200 in a cheap box with cheap power supply for an Antec SOLO, Corsair 520, and a Ninja heat sink on a Core 2 Duo. I couldn't be happier. My...

Well. I got ordered the Corsair and the SOLO as well as the Ninja. I think I will probably stick with the old GPU. Like I said, I realize it will be loud, but I think overall my system will be much quieter....at least I hope so. I will wait on getting a new GPU until the DX10 cards have been out for...

Thanks for the thoughts/advice. I know the GPU will be loud...but I am hoping that in the SOLO case it won't be too bad, especially since I am going from something that I can hear 2 rooms away. I got the board I did in hopes of keeping my old GPU and RAM. The Radeon is dated, but works for me in the...

First Quiet PC - Your thoughts please

I currently have an AMD 2500 overclocked to 3200, 4 HDs, Ati Radeon 9800, and DVD burner. It is all in a cheap case with a crappy Roswell PSU (Has worked fine though). Anyway....I am getting a little tired of waiting for my computer as I tend to do a lot of things at once. So I thought....time to mo...
